I just read this and i'm pondering about how our mexican posters on here feel about it? Good, bad or who cares? I guess it's a prelude for what's coming to the USA.
As mexican I can say is a good thing, there are numerous id cards.
With this you can have all your info in just one card, at this time you have the next official id cards, accepted in banks or anywhere:
IFE: For vote.
PASSPORT: To travel outside the country or get american visa.
CARTILLA MILITAR: For the ones with military service.
Also you have:
IMSS: For social security. This one is better than IFE but not all citizens have social security only the ones who pay taxes.
And the Driver License.
As you can see the IFE has a big budget only for the card, but the people in Mexico don't vote, so I see this like an unnecessary expense, I prefer the government give me just 1 official ID card.
The US/Canada already have a joint iris ID card.. the Nexus trusted cross border traveller card..
at Toronto airport it works wonders.. you bypass the long line to US customs, walk up to the machine, scan your eyes and voila. .you can go right to the customs guy
As with much else, technology is a double-edged sword. Those doubting it might watch the 2002 film 'Minority Report,' staring Tom Cruise. While aspects of that film may seem or be science fiction, it well highlights security based on iris detection. As well, the inevitable foibles of human nature, and how technology alone is never the answer.
True knowledge is, which implies wisdom. The evolution of the human species towards a higher vibration.

The article says it's 99% reliable. That seems like a fairly large margin of error for some reason.
