Well, some steady business came in on Spring Break, not like the ole days. One thing we can all count on is that everything is subject to change. My first trip to Rocky Point was in 1963 at the age of 13 with the hiking club. Boy, a long time ago. There was nothing but beach, no Reef bar or anything to speak of. The true attraction coming back as an adult, for me, was leaving the muddled mind of fast life and turning it off if just for a few days. Now, I live here, and when I go back to see family, friends or do some business, I can't wait to get back to the peace and the ocean.

I know exactly what you mean ! We've been in Nayarit on the coast for almost 15 years but also have a home (and business) back in the states. This year I've had to go back several times for family crisis' and to help a little with the business. Just getting on that plane was hard but coming back 2 weeks later to the peaceful Nayarit countryside was pure joy!
It's hard to accurately describe how living here changes you. Naturally, it's the much more laid-back environment but I think the culture here also has a lot to do with it. People are happier - even those living on the margins - and more content with their lives. There is less materialism and overt greed (except of course for the entrenched mordita tradition). When I go back to the states, I'm always pointedly aware of the contrasts.
Wonder how many on this forum are ex-pats?? I did inquire whether we could have a more targeted forum for the Pacific coast but apparently not enough posters yet. Perhaps, though, we could have a "Sticky" for the FM-3 crowd, those wanting to discuss life and special events in Mexico?? Maybe then we could get more folks to participate - I know a few who might..

SarahSal, I'd be up for a sticky for the FM-3 crowd. I think that would be a great idea.
I lived all over Mexico for a dozen years or so, came back to "the old country" a few years ago (massive culture shock), and can't wait to be able to retire back in Mexico. You are right that it's hard to describe how living in Mexico changes you. For me it was partly recognizing the importance of "today". As Jim Morrison sang, "The future's uncertain and death is always near..." But today is right here right now-- enjoy it.
I had a friend in Los Cabos a couple of decades ago who had never been out of Mexico. His first trip to the US was Las Vegas. Can you imagine??? He came back with his hair standing on end, lol. "It's so fast!" he kept exclaiming. "My god, everything is so fast!!!! How can anyone breathe living like that? It's so FAST!!!"
I'll be retiring to Puerto Penasco in a couple of years, and in the meantime I've started a blog about it called Rocky Point Tides. A little of this, a little of that; some news; some recipes; some chat... I put a slide show up this morning-- pics I posted earlier here on the Mexico board and then thought, what the heck? Those should be on the blog!
Once I live there full time I'll be able to do a better job of it, but for now it keeps my dreams alive.
pleaser, take a look at it and tell me what you think. I welcome all suggestions, criticism and contributions of any kind. Well, OK, I don't welcome criticism, but I'll cheerfully take it. lol A totally non-commercial venture just because I've learned to love the place. Rocky Point Tides

Baja Boomer - I like the website. I'm always looking for good information on whats going on in Rocky Point or just some pictures to tide (no pun intended) me over between visits. Keep up the good work.

The website is GREAT! You did a really fine job showing off the area through the slide show - and that cool U-tube video! Plus plenty of info on the area and Mexico in general. Excellent presentation!

What's the use of going to Mexico if it's going to be like the US? That's just silliy.

OMG - I *totally* agree..
This is NOT the US of A and I, for one, don't want it to be although many others would obviously be thrilled.
It's sort of like a relationship - you don't try to change the person you're with. You accept that person - or in this case, country - for what it is, despite any perceived flaws. A radical thought, perhaps but in trying to change a country or a person you're liable to create a monster that you end up not liking!
