How absurd. Why would the U.S. invent, promote, and hope to celebrate a National Tequila Day??? Oh, wait... for the same reason we promote Cinco de Mayo... to sell alcohol.
I suppose that this fake-it-'til-you-make-it pseudo respect that Americans have for Mexican culture will have to do for now... until we learn to have real appreciation for the true richness and depth their culture has to offer, and the positive impact it has made on life in the U.S. (beyond alcohol).

Is just marketing, is good for us too, if Tequila is good sold in USA, more employees for Jalisco, every one wins. So, no is not absurd at all.

Come on, in this forum all is black or white. Mexicans are evil because some of them cross the border illegally and Americans are evil for what ever they do.
TOLERANCE is the key. If more people apply this norm, things would be better in the relation between Mexico and USA.
How did this National Tequila Day start? On National Tequila Day, Americans should toast to Mariano Martinez, the inventor of the frozen margarita machine. He single-handedly changed an entire U.S. industry. Thousands upon thousands of Americans, as well as people all over the world, have partaken of Mariano's frozen lime concoction from his margarita machine over the past four decades. It was an idea inspired by a Slurpee machine, executed by a young restaurant owner struggling to stay afloat. I remember when the "Slurpee" came out and some of the ingredients added to them, like Rum.... This past May was the 40th anniversary of his invention of the frozen margarita machine, which resides in the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C. My son claims to have seen the first machine...
There must be at least 365 different alcoholic beverages sold in the USA. Does each one have a national day?
No.
How many can you name?
