Default President Calderon State of the Union Speech

President Calderon gave his first ''State of the Union'' speech yesturday to the Congress and Mexican Public and he focused on 5 points that he will agressively tackle...

1..... Public Safety
2......Competitive Economy
3......Equality of Opportunity
4......Sustainable Developement
5......Effective Democracy

I read his whole speech which is long but my basic jest is if he can get the Congress to go along with him then he may actually change Mexico for the better as it has never been truely done before. He wants to transform Mexico into a modern economic power. What i didn't like was he was blaming the USA for the border and immigration fiasco as i believe a ''Head of State'' shouldn't worry about another countries internal affars.

Here's the speech for those interested (in english).

He might also focus on corruption.
I wonder if our own Head of State" could live by those words.

I wondered if we could vote him in for our new Head of State? He sounds like a humanitarian.

I don't think Calderon is any humanitarian. He also claimed that any place with a Mexican citizen is Mexico. Los Angeles and Chicago are not Mexican cities, nor do I live in Mexico. Imagine if Pres. Bush said that, there would be WWIII. If Pres. Calderon really wanted to help the half of his nation which lives in poverty, he would change the system of oil production in Mexico and he would tax the people who live in compounds and send their kids to private schools alongside bodyguards. If Calderon cared, he would spend less time getting amnesty of illegal immigrants, and make it so that they don't have to leave their homeland. He would clean house, and rid his nation of crooked Federales and drug smugglers on the border.

The thing that astounds me--other than his unbelievable arrogance--is how successful he has been in convincing Mexicans that he's doing something for them by working to make sure the United States provides them with health care, education, and employment--at the expense of the American people. He himself, of course--as well as his class in Mexico--couldn't care less about the Mexican people. If they did, they would understand that it is their responsibility--not ours--to provide these things for their people. Instead, he wants to divert Mexico's poor into America, and the Mexican people think he's just grand! I mean, seriously, it's mind-blowing how easily he has been able to do this. As for what he said about how Mexico doesn't stop at the southern border of the U.S., nobody takes it seriously because he's the President of a country with no military power; hence, he is unable to pose any kind of real military threat. But if any President of the U.S. or any European country said something like that, the whole world would be accusing them of imperialism, and it would be in all the news.

I wonder if Calderon believes that Guatamala's border extends to wherever Guatamalans are living?

Or is Calderson just dealing in double standards here?

I just find it amusing the similarities between Calderon's speech and Hitler's ideology.

"I have said that Mexico does not stop at its border, that wherever there is a Mexican, there is Mexico. And, for this reason, the government action on behalf of our countrymen is guided by principles, for the defense and protection of their rights."

Hitler's ideology was that those of germanic blood were germans. The parts that were taken from germany after WWI that were largely german he felt were part of germany.

I guess it's ironic.

When I was reading what he said I thought about the similiarities of what he said and what Hitler once said, but of course many who are in power and are humanitarians would write this way. But as it was pointed out to me, he isn't a humanitarian, but then that is only one person's opinion. I don't know enough about him to think otherwise.

Default From what I have read......

they are still teaching in Mexican schools that the Southwest part of the U.S. was stolen from them and it rightfully belongs to Mexico. How long are they going to teach this lie to their students in school? The Indians were the FIRST people to claim the U.S. and anyone after that, being British, Irish, Italian, French OR Mexican, robbed them of their land. And Mexico, the Indians were in Mexico FIRST, and it rightfully belongs to the Native Indians of Mexico, NOT even the Mexicans, let alone Calderon! To decide this issue, once and for all, if the SW U.S. rightfully belongs to Mexico, let's let the Indian tribal chiefs of Arizona and New Mexico and Nevada and California decide that issue. That's not for Calderon to decide.
