I also have been researching retiring in Mexico so my SSD will go a little farther. Mazatlan is number one on my list so far and it would be great to network with others with the same goals. My time frame is one to three years before I make the move and the possibility of meeting up with other dreamers in Mazatlan for a look see would be fun. Count me in.

To Hook the brother up,...........Sorry dude but you need to do so really good home work ! I have been going to Acapulcp for years and now I dread the thought of having to just drive past it on my way South. There are major serous problems there and they just keep getting worse. People I know that have owned properties there for three generations are getting out and not fast enough for them.

Great.... I agree with you, it was my friend in DF who said Acapulco was a good place to purchase. Perhaps he sees things differently as he also has family there, whereas I see it from a point of view from living in the US and only vacationing in Mexico.

I'm just trying to understand what other Mexican citizens think of my friend's assertion; for what it's worth, he is a VP for PEMEX, so it's not like he does not have connections, or uneducated on matters in the area; he's fully aware of crime as well.

Regards

Question Sorry to impose, but I have a question about hotels

I was looking at Mazaltan to take a week's vacation (not live there, nor buy a time share).

Does anyone have a suggestion for a real nice beachfront hotel?

Though, not a time share hotel...I've read some website reviews about the time share pitches ...I'm going on vacation to get away from business...I simply want a vacation hotel.

In Mazatlan most of the big nice resorts on the beach are going to be time share resorts but you can still stay their on a nightly basis. I suggest you pick out a resort from the internet that looks good to you. It's almost impossible to avoid someone asking you to come and check out their resort. I used to be one of those people in Mazatlan inviting people to come check out our resort. They give you some really nice gifts for spending a couple of hours with them. The sales guys at the end of a tour can be a little tough but if your not interested just tell them that. I could suggest some places but the money is really going to vary. I worked for El Cid and INN at Mazatlan, both are real nice but I would have to say the Inn at Mazatlan is more for the older folks and El Cid has pretty much everything for everybody. The 2 giants there are going to be El Cid and Pueblo Bonito, Pueblo Bonito on the very north end is quite swanky, very beautiful. There are countless others and I could give you names but I think you might get a little confused. Check it out on the web which ones look good to you and let me know which ones and I should be able to help you with what area they are in and whats around them. I have stayed at the El Coyote and it was nice for the money. It all depends on what you want. Let me know I would be glad to help you!

migee, I would suggest you look at the El Quijote Inn Its location is perfect, within easy walking distance of lots of restaurants and shops plus the restaurants on-site (El Rocinante and the Sancho Panza piano bar) used to be excellent, can't say if they still are. Both restaurants are situated beachside.

It has suites as well as standard rooms, it's relatively quiet and right on an excellent stretch of beach (I've seen lots of gringos surf fishing right there) and altogether it might be an excellent choice for you. It isn't super luxurious or anything, but it's a good resort and should be reasonably priced. I think they have Internet access there, too.

This is a timeshare resort, but I don't think they've been selling anything there for quite some time so it shouldn't be a problem for you. It used to be one of my favorite places to kick back with a beer, lulled by the sound of waves, and watch the pelicans soaring by in military formation.

I haven't been to Maz recently so things might have changed, but perhaps pepedemaz can warn you if the place has gone down hill in the interim.

While it's never achieved the high profile of Acapulco or Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan is nevertheless a pleasantly priced alternative with long, wide beaches, a beautifully restored downtown and lots of activities.
There are many fabulous projects here in Mazatlan and one of them is Torrenza private residence & club resorts. This building is the tallest one in the pacific and the first in mazatlan with intelligent system, it seduces your senses with its spectacular ocean view and exclusive comforts. Take a moment to view the Torrenza website to get further information www.torrenza.com.mx It is time to start your vacations

I totally agree on Mazatlan for endless reasons. The more you get to know Mazatlan the more you will love it. I am not a high rise condo kind of person but Mazatlan is full and overflowing with options.

You must work their? Are they done with that place yet or do they still have only the office done? I heard the owner of the torrenza is arab, from the middle east, is that true? Last March they only had the office area somewhat done so it would be interesting to see where their at now. The animated pictures look great, we'll see.

I have a relative who works there so he pretty much tells me about everything that´s going on. About the building, it´s under construction right now but the office is done and running. About the owner you must be confused cause the arab guy is building the hydra towers. Here are some pictures on how everything is going.
