I was always curious what racial category most Mexicans belong to? Are they considered white? Mixed?
Wiki tells us mexicans are an admixture of europeans and native americans. On the other hand their narrative is unlike ours. Many/most of them want to believe they are native american in origin.
When will Americans learn that America is not the only melting pot country on earth? Mexico has people of every ethnicity living there, and there are black, white, asian, and other various mixes in Mexico just like in America. Yes, most tend to be Mestizo, but many of the higher class people are white. I don't understand why people think Mexican is an ethnicity, it's a nationality more than anything. Just like American is a nationality, there's no real "American" ethnicity.
I'm naturally blond and of Spaniard descent and it bugs me when people say "you don't look Spanish" because in a lot of Americans see it as synonymous with Mexican.
The Mexican government conducted genetic research in 2010 and they found ethnically mixed constituted 70% of the population; those of European descent were 18%, indigenous were 10% and 2% was other. I forgot to save the article which was in Spanish, but I'll see it I can find it again (though wikipedia must have read the same article as they also mention 18% for Mexico on their white Latin american page).
I don't think that 18 percent of Mexicans are of European descent, not on the wildest dreams.

People think of "Mexican" as a race because most of the Mexican immigrants they see have a very particular appearance.
Mexican immigrants in the US, but there are also payloads of real "turistas" and middle class that visit the US and they are not tagged as Mexican or Hispanics.

Does it really matter?? Their skin is a color that caucasian people PAY to get in tanning booths, their work ethic is something most people of ANY race can't keep up with, their love of God and religion is to be envied by most and their joy for life is amazing. So again...why even ask this question?

Well they ask the question all the time Pammy. Half the women I chatted with asked me that directly "Do I look white to you?"
