We will be staying in the main plaza area, any great restaurants within walking distance? We prefer a casual place rather than dressy and expensive. How about a cafe to for morning coffee?

thanks :-)

There are many casual places to choose from in San Miguel. Just take a stroll and find the one that looks comfortable. I am jealous.

I used to live in SMA,

Try Pegasso, one block off the square, great chili en nogada, best I have ever had.

Breakfast is one block off the square also Mama's.

If you really feel like shooting the works, $50 a person for the best food you have ever had in your life, from the square towards the Iron building, you will have to ask someone, no sign, small converted house ran by a gentleman from Spain, called Cartuja.

Any other questions, just ask.

SMA is the most boring place I've ever been. There is nothing interesting to do. You can only visit the Pink church so many times before you get sick of it. The expat community is 70% nasty bitchy women with nothing to do but gossip about other people. Its almost impossible to even start a conversation with many of these women without some unwanted rant and critism coming your way. Its very overpriced and you will pay the kind of prices you pay in the US for restuarants (most do american food very badly) and youll overpay for rentals or buying a house. The much touted "cultural acitivies" are not particularly high standard and if you try to take part you will just keep running into the same nasty old women that do nothing but critisize and ***** about other people. Honestly, there is nothing to do here and everything is over priced, noisy and the air is badly polluted. They do have a library and a newspaper but honestly, I have always found any place you live has some nice and some not so nice people. But SMA is definitely filled with these super opinionated older women and they are either complaining about something or they are bitching at you. Its almost impossible having a civil conversation. This place is filled with post menopausal women who should be getting back on their HRT so they can try to be nicer to other people. And I have met a few nice people but they are a very small minority As a whole they are just as bored and therefore can do nothing but comment on what you're doing etc. Also if you are thinking of coming here anyway be careful about renting from these women. You will find your life become unlivable in about 30 seconds. Best to rent from a local Mexican person. They are very kind and helpful.
