The Ministry of Communications and Transport (SCT) has authorized the use of cell phones during flights in Mexico.
The authorization shall enter into force upon publication of notice of cancellation of the 2001 standard in the Official Gazette.
Through a circular dependency by Juan Molinar Horcasitas cancel the Norma Oficial Mexicana NOM-019-SCT3-2001, dated 2001, which sets restrictions on the operation of mobile phones and electronic devices on board aircraft , published in the Official Gazette on December 4, 2001.
The authorization shall enter into force upon publication of notice of cancellation of the 2001 standard in the Official Gazette.
According to the SCT, the National Advisory Committee for the Standardization of Air Transport meeting on August 20, 2008 and conducted the analysis of NOM-019-2001-SCT3 and agreed to its cancellation.
"Since at present the technological advancement of electronic systems can be installed in aircraft can make it possible to use cell phones in certain phases of flight of the aircraft," the agency said.
The document issued by the SCT does not specify the "certain phases of flight", however, this information is requested dependence but there was no response.
In Europe, for example, has established that mobile phones can be used once the aircraft reaches a height of 3.000 meters or more.

Established that the SCT NOM-019-SCT3-2001 in 2001 restrictions on the operation of mobile phones and electronic devices onboard aircraft to ensure the maximum safe operation of aircraft and protect the physical integrity of the users and their property, and the third, when the operation of mobile phones and electronic devices could generate interference and / or distortions in the signals of navigation systems and / or communication of aircraft.
In Mexico there are approximately 76 million cell phones in use and only International Airport of Mexico City attends every year to 32 million passengers.
