Have been all over Mexico but living in Mexico City would lean towards KFI.
Loved the meal with the drumsticks (size of turkey legs) and the corn on the cob that came with it.
The chickens live longer then the 6 weeks as they do in the US thus are larger in size.

It depends on the type of cuisine you want, Mexico is a big country with a very rich and diverse culinary that varies from state to state, Mexico is also home of world class cities where you can find any variety of cuisine.
If you like meat perhaps la Mansion would a nice place to visit.

Well I'm kinda finiky when it comes down to eating.
Saying that is obsure considering that I've eaten at stands along side the road with the (mosco) flies in the surrounding air.
Nitty Gritty would say that Sanbornes has it hands down with my limited fancy restaurant experience.
This is based upon my time in Mexico City. VIPS would be a close 2nd of choice. Do know there were others but just never tried them out. I liked the Shrimp with Rice and that was where I always ended up. Vips on the Periferico Norte (Satelite) was a choice for breakfast.
In TJ Sanbornes has a place on Calle Revolution that has a NICE Mexican clientile with NO Americans inside as they do not know what the inside of the bldg has to offer.
Sanbornes has a burger place up the street with booths next to the window by the sidewalk so people can stare outside or inside.
The place I eat is at the nicer bldg and the food has always been exquisite and reasonably priced. An ideal place for a date or special moment. The waitresses all dress in clothes of their home state and appear elegant.

Sanborns, Vips, Wings, California are chains... like Denny's here I guess.
As for Best Restaurant I can comment on Mexico City:
1. El Cardenal
2. Puerto Madero
3. China Grill (Camino Real Hotel)
4. Au Pied d' Couchon (Presidente Intercontinental Hotel)
5. Le Cirque (Camino Real Hotel)
6. Danubio
7. L'Alsace
8. Puerto Madero
9. Biko
10. Cantina La No. 1
Those are my faves... but they are hell expensive (only went on business meals :P), not sure what the OP is looking for.

Coming back on my choice of Sanbornes.
For those from San Diego who visit Calle Revolution and see all the stuff being hawked...walk up the street on the East side and you will come upon a brown bldg with the steps (entrance) facing the corner and the name Sanbornes shown overhead. Walk inside and look around...it's free.
Inside they have Pastries, Choclates, CD's, Jewelery, Magazines, Quality Gift Items (nothing like on the street) Tobacco/Cigars, Stereo items and many other things.
Also inside is the Restaurant and a separate Bar. A cocktail waitress will bring a drink to your table if you wish. They do take credit cards and have a underground secure pkg with a validated receipt from the cashier.
The food is VERY good with reasonable prices...clientile above average...menu in Spanish and English.
Sound like a PR man don't I. It is just that during my three yrs in Mexico City did visit many of their locations and was always happy with the meal I chose.
Vips was my 2nd choice as I stated...while Wings I found to be at the airports and higher priced to those that are travelling.
I'm just one person and give a honest appraisal of my experiences here in Mexico.
There is a New VIPS in Rosarito that I have to visit soon.
