Its not bad compared to other places but its worse than most cities. BTW New Orleans has the 3rd highest murder rate in the world for a large city. Thats why its more dangerous. Also Opa Locka,FL has the second highest murder rate in America for any community in the states which I believe is between
80-90 per 100,000(not sure.)
care to back that up with a source? Because a murder rate of 80-90 people per 100,000 means it has a murder rate that is double that of New Orleans which I find suspect!

Okay I searched it and found Opa Locka has a 69 per 100,000 murder rate and New Orleans had 67 per 100,000. Very close. Also population figures arent certain in N.O. since Katrina so it can be lower or higher depending on the population.

You obviously don't know what you're talking about. New York City is one of the safest cities in America and WAY safer than Miami. Lay off the drugs or lay off the movies and rap music.

In 2008, Miami had 1,334.7 violent crime rate, New York City had 580.3 violent crime rate. The same year Miami's murder rate was 14.7 and New York Cities murder rate was 6.3. New York's robbery rate was 265.9 while Miami's was 564.6. New York's aggravated assault rate was 297.6 and Miami's was 745.5.

Compared to Chicago Maimi is still dangerous. Chicago's murder rate was 18.0 but Chicago's violent crime rate was 1208.6 while Miami's Violent crime rate was 1,334.7. Chicago's roberry rate was 588.6 which is higher than Miamis but Chicago's aggravated assualt was 602.0 which is lower.

Now compared to LA Miami is way dangerous. LA's violent crime rate was 689.5 way lower than Maimi's. LA's murder rate was 10.0 way lower than Miamis. LA's robbery was 348.5 again way lower than Miamis. LA's aggravated assault rate was 306.4 way lower than Miamis.

And to get this out of the way Miami had a higher burglary rate than Chicago, NYC, and LA with 1,155.1, while Chicago had 920.4, LA had 512.2 and NYC had 238.1 burglary rate.

I think I made my point that Miami is still a dangerous city compared to these large cities. Miami is not all ocean breezes and palm trees. But overall USA is a safe country.

What is the point of posts like these ... yes Overtown is a cesspool and if you are going to spend anytime there or even drive around there .. then you are either a low life a crack head . I think even most tourists know to avoid Overtown or Liberty City .

I have to disagree completely with your statement - there are parts of NY that can be scary but as a Native Nyer - overtown is much scarier, but I think any place that you are not used to is scary. I have a friend who lives in Carol City and wouldn't live anywhere else - that is her home - she does send her children to private school but still she doesn't have a problem there. NY is one of the safest cities if not the safest metro city in this country - you can compare Queens to Miami because it has about the same amount of people. Manhattan has something like 9 million people alone. Compare overtown to Jamaica, east New York, Brownsville in Maryland, Baltimore City - very scary place and definitely more dangerouse than any city or neighborhood in NY.
