By Forbes of course.

But what I can't figure out is if they are ranking the cities based on how easy it is for singles to date and find love; or if they are ranking the cities on how great it is to be single in them (as in leading the single lifestyle).

I will say that Miami seems to have a lot of unattached people per capita. However, many times, those people are unattached for a reason!

No surprise Miami ranked high in this category. It is a great place for young single people to live, work and party. The cost of living here is relatively inexpensive, there is a ton of night life, hip restaurants, etc.

Your link goes to an article from May 2001. That was before 9/11.
A lot has changed.
The latest singles list from Forbes is from 2009, and Miami is ranked 29th.

That is strange...because this was linked on Yahoo! yesterday. I couldn't find the Yahoo Travel link...but the Forbes list was the same.

if the cost of living is inexpensive, then why do we constantly rank the most poorest?

Miami is "Relatively" Inexpensive depending on where one is coming from. Someone from NYC, LA, San Fran will think Miami is cheap. Someone from South/Central America, the Islands, or some one from small town America may think Miami is expensive. So it's all relative to where one is moving from. We have a thread that someone is looking to spend about 4k a month on rent and then in another thread someone only has $600 a month to spend, so it all depends.

Cool best for singles ?

Miami-Dade County does have many options for a single person to socialize if that person does not get stressed out by Miami's crime ~ high traffic ~ debilitating summer heat ~ hurricane threats ~ expensive restaurants ~ high cost of good lodging ~ very rude people

That ranking is based for singles who are not looking a place to stay forever or to find the job of their dreams. This city is famous for party, pubs, beaches and "attractive" people... not for a career or a place to raise a family...
