While im certainly not surprised, its dissapointing. We all have budgets to manage (at work and at home), and how the people we always elect can never seem to figure that principle out, sucks. What did they do with all the money form the clowns paying 7k a year in taxes the last few yeas? Ya they ain't paying now, but for a while their taxable income tripled for some houses. Our public services we were offered sure didnt triple. Its almost like in miami we literally plan for tomorrow morning, not next year, not even next week.

The link didn't work for me, so couldn't read the article. The news said taxes would only raise for a small few. I hope that is the case, not a majority.

Thank you for fixing the link, i had messed it up somehow.
Seems like it benefits busiensses and second homeowners and punishes the old timers who are homesteaded.

(a tiodbit of it)

[LEFT]A higher tax rate would mean property owners with long-time homesteaded residences will end up paying higher taxes, even though their property values may have plummeted.

Others -- particularly those with commercial properties and non-homesteaded holdings -- would see their tax bills fall.

``A good number of people in Miami-Dade County are going to face a sizable tax increase,'' said Commissioner Carlos Gimenez, who voted against the measure, urging the county to further tighten its belt. Specifically, he questioned why county employees will get raises next year.

The countywide property tax rate -- the amount of tax charged per each $1,000 in value -- would jump 12 percent. When property owners receive their preliminary property tax notices next month, they will include this proposed tax rate -- which can be reduced at the September public hearings, but can't be raised.

Carlos Gimenez is correct in that the commissioners need to do more cutting first before they start to raise property taxes. The county employees should not be getting a raise this year. And if they can't make any cuts and simply rely on raising taxes, I think it may time to replace some of these commissioners. When a company loses revenue they cut things to stay a float. The County needs to the same.

All the complaining going on and guess what....it's probably still not as high as New Jersey. People in Miami need to think outside the box, it's not the only place where stuff like this happens.
