Default Is the term Latino offensive to anyone???

So I got this question from my mother the other day....Is it offensive to refer to someone Latino in Maimi..............and I said I really didn't know......Most everyone I meet says they are Columbian, Cuban, etc..........So is this term offensive??? and if so why? Thanks...........!

some latinos prefer being called hispanic because they think it makes them sound whiter (of european decent) as opposed to indigenous.

Not at all. Its perfectly acceptable term. Hispanic is proably prefered or their country of origin but nothing at all wrong with latino/latina

thanks rebsosaurus..........I've been in a few conversations where they want to make sure they are not indigenous Latinos to the US or Mexico.......that seems to not be good

Why would it be offensive?

You can call the Cubans "****" and they wouldn't know you are insulting them. No one in here cares about those names, really. I think it is due to the lack of a discriminatory culture; be this city full of racism, xenophobia, etc, we would have know all the names in the book. That's not the case here.
