In DC where I dont have a car and live in a very urban area I walk to the grovery store with a backpack and can fit a weeks worth of food and stuff in there and hold a few bags for the walk back. The grocery stores in the City DC,NYC are much smaller then the huge publix down the road.

Miami even though very urban in some parts does not work as much as DC or NYC would. Having a car is easy to have in Miami even in the most urban areas except for some of Miami Beach. So many people can drive to the publix. There is a nice and large publix right in Brickell.

When I lived in Barcelona for 6 months I had a small grocery store near by so every few days I would buy a few things. Thats how it is done in urban areas. But most people in Miami even people who live downtown have cars and do the same thing you do. I live right in the middle of the city and have a publix a 2min drive away. If I need something I get in the car and drive. Miami is no NYC or DC in terms of parking and the price to have a car in the city.

So many people will just take the grocery shopping cart home with them and then you see carts here and there in the neighborhood.
Lol yep I remember that. You pass by a vacant parking lot and you see like 6 shopping carts just sitting there.
