I think i can spend about $1000 to 1200. work place will be near to Miami int airport. Do not mind a trouble free drive of 40min.
I would recommend renting a 2 bedroom apartment in East Kendall - near the Falls, Dadeland, or Miami-Dade College - you could probably find such an apartment there for around $1200/month. There is a small Asian Indian community in the area and the public schools are good for when your son needs to go to kindergarten.
i must say...the site is very informative and beautifully done..thanks for help....well i never ment to offend anyone....but there is always a fear of security and safety when u move with with family to an unknown place.
can you help me with the cost of living so that i can work out my busget accordingly:
Utilitiy bills:
Pre-school fees:
Avg. Health insurance:

Any other taxes:
I am not familiar much about MIA area..I stay a bit North in Broward County and have plans to move to Kendall area.
U can expand ur area to include Broward and MIA is commutable from Pembroke Pines/Miramar/Weston/Davies areas of Broward.
Broward has a couple of temples and your kid can get some cultural classes over the weekend n some Sisu Vihar stuff.
IMO, SW Borward is very family oriented and I guess it will be some area I'd look at apart from MIA area
Utility bills : Depends on communities. If the house is not very old,ur FPL will be $100- $150, Water ..lots of time included in rental, internet and TV(basic) will be ard $60-$100(Sometimes basic cable is free in some communities).
When you say pre-school fee,are u referring to day care?do both of you work?
Car insurance is comparitively higher in South FL compared to other states.IF you have never been in US,then the price might be higher.. $150- $250 for an old car
Health insurance isnt area specific. It depends on ur employer and their bargaining power with the insurance company.Might be $800 pm?
IT will be based on ur income and number of dependents
You can send me a PM,I will try to answer ur specific questions..but as I said earlier I dont live in Miami.
Cris, welcome back to the forum. I took the liberty of posting the link to your map, hope you don't mind. I think it's a tremendous asset for newcomers. Hope you're doing well in NYC. Working on a new map for that city, perhaps? (j/k)

Thanks. You can post a link to my map anytime you'd like. I check in on the forum every once in a while, but don't plan to post as regularly as I used to. I am doing well in NYC, but this city is so vast that I haven't even been to most neighborhoods here, let alone know them well enough to make a map!
thanks for all your kind suggestions....you ve been very helpful....i was thinking of Doral as it was closer to MIA (my work place).....but really do not know about the traffic.
"Crisp444" your map work is amazing.....you are damn good man!!!
what are your suggestions on Doral as a place to live with family....my 4yrs old son is very active and friendly...would require kids of his age group in neighbourhood....we would require malls / restaruants / shopping area at a walking distance as my wife cannot drive.
Also your recommendation of East Kendall....pl give more details please....how much would be enough salary to raise a family and with decent living stardard....that means Good house of atleast 2 bedroom in a nice friendly location, an average car, weekend dinner / amusement outs. Kindergarden schooling for my son, My newly born kid would also require frequent medical care...
Is it tough to get a parttime maid to support my wife??...say for 4 to 5 hrs everyday....what would be the cost??
will 70k salary be enough to have the desired standard of living?

i would suggest fountainebleu, its next to doral and marked yellow on the map, but its not bad at all, it has some shaddy rental apartments but thats it, its mostly highrise(4+ story) apartments and condos. you can rent a 2 bed 2 bath for i think ranging from 850-1400 depending on buildings/rooms and such.

70k should be fine. You should be able to do all the listed activities
I know a family who has a maid in Doral.she works for 8-10 hrs a day and paid hourly $8.So make your own calculations.
East kendall is,I guess that is west of US 1
there should be another thread about the communities there ..Will link it ..the title should have Kendall,Palmetto and Cutler Bay

I know of a small community of people from central/southern India in east Kendall (Kendall Drive around Dadeland Mall and convenient to all basic shopping and banking). You can find modest rentals, perhaps a 2 bedroom for $1,200. Commute to airport without traffic around 15-20 minutes, with traffic could be an hour, even 90 minutes. Hopefully you will have flexible hours.
If you keep temperature at around 79 degrees in a two bedroom, electricity around $100 a month. If you keep temperature low, it could be as high as $300.
Telephone with internet around $85, with cable television around $130.
Your water will probably be included in rental price, if you're lucky maybe internet.
Pre-school fees around $130 per week.
Car insurance will be very high if you have no driving history in the US, I'd guess around $3,000 per year.
As mentioned, no state income tax in Florida, effective federal tax rates are relatively low, but may change for 2011, we'll know by the end of this year. Chances are they will remain relatively low for your income level.
Annual property tax is around 2% of market value in case you decide to buy.
Sales tax 6.5%, but no sales tax on most food items (someone please correct me if I'm wrong about that).
Health insurance? Oh Lord! Is your employer not covering health insurance? If you have to pay yourself, would suggest a high deductible, probably cost around $500 a month, maybe $600 for a family of four. It may work assuming that you have at least $10,000 saved up for an emergency.
Thanks a ton friend....this really gives me some confidence of picking this new assignment....and i believe East Kendall is safe and a good place to live with good schools around.
