Is the beach here nice? I've lived in Miami for 21+ freakin years and I've never been. When it comes to beaches I've only been to Miami Beach and up north in Broward. Thinking of trying something new.

Yes, it was voted one of the best beaches in the country a few years ago. It's definitely more of a naturally scenic beach than, say, Miami beach or Ft. Lauderdale beach. The Cape Florida Lighthouse is there, definitely worth checking out if you are interested in experiencing more than just sand and surf.

Didn't Hurricane Andrew wipe out a lot of the trees(mostly Australian Pines) in that State Park? South Florida has such a fragile environment that it really takes a lot out of you when you see such beauty ruined.

no, not sure but its still really beautiful. they replanted all the sea oats after wilma. must be pretty susceptible to hurricane events.
as long as there are people who care to maintain it, this place will never run out of amazing beauty. and you can never stop the beauty of the sky here.

Yes, it's very nice. Hurricane Andrew did do some serious damage but that was 15 years ago! New trees and plants have grown in. There's plenty of parking and grills to cook. There are playground areas for children. The covered shelters can be rented for very little money and you have it for the whole day. The water there is nice and calm. I'm a Florida native and beach-lover and this is one of my favorites. The only thing I would advise you against is going late in the day. There are a lot of mosquitos at sundown. Have fun!

The Austrailian Pines are gone but the beauty of the park remains.
