I am JUST disappointed of what this city has turned into...too expensive to live, high taxes, TOO much cheap labor, therefore; low salaries, not so good schools, Spanish speaking only city, lot's of discrimination, rude people, bad drivers, and I can go on and on......I do not want to be here when this city collapses...It will no longer be part of the US, and it is sad to see how all the Americans are running away leaving such a beautiful city that is being consumed and managed by just the “wrong people.” I had always thought that maybe coming back as a visitor I could enjoy this city more than living here, but you have just proven the contrary…So Sad!
Suzy, not only the Americans are leaving the city. I am Cuban, I have lived in Miami for 20 years, and I can't take it any more. I am relocating soon as well. It is sad that a city that had so much potential, has turn into such a low class area. Like Sergio, I too will leave behind my family, and I can only hope that one day they can realize how bad Miami is. Good luck to all.

im switching to BofA right now because its more competant and reliable than a local credit union and if i want to move away it will be alot easier.
also since the mail system is unreliable here i intend do do bill pay so if a bill never shows up in my mailbox as has happened plenty of times i wont receive an angry letter.

Hello there, and I wish you the BEST

Let me clarify my statement of "Americans".....I meant the people who truly feel americans....who love to be here and have adjusted their culture as an American.....I was not only referring to the ones born here...the people that live in Miami are NOT Americans....Well, at least the majority....do not feel Americans....North Americans...of course...

I can relate to this post...I was born in Connecticut, moved to Hollywood in 1980, married in 1985, moved to Pembroke pines in 1987, then to Cooper City in 1992. I NEVER thought I would leave. But never say never...I am living in GA, loving it. Although the people are rude as anything on the road, customer service in restaurants, stores, Costco, are the best. If you tell someone you just moved here while in a store, they always say "Well, welcome to Georgia" and they mean it . They always say have a nice day. Niceness most definately breeds niceness, just as rudeness breeds rudeness.

My husband and I just recently visited Ft. Lauderdale, and other than missing friends and family, did not miss what Florida has become. We feel lucky that we got out when we did.

Great posts from everyone! Not to pile up on the gloom and doom but I read these threads on occasion (and I don't even live in Florida anymore) and it's crazy to see that the same things that bothered me back in 1991-1992 are still occurring years later. I left Miami in July of 92..a month before Andrew hit..and I've never looked back or missed it even the slightest.

The final straws back then included having some crazy guy wanting to kick my butt over a parking space...a hit and run car accident from someone that didn't have plates and almost killed me when he entered the Dolphin Expressway near the Orange Bowl and bumped the back end of my car, spinning me into a ditch just before the bridge where I would have surely spun right off. Going to the dry cleaners in Kendall (which wasn't so built up back then) and having the owners practically throw my change at me because I didn't speak English. I had noticed the sign in the window that said "English spoken here" and thought it was a joke, but boy it wasn't spoken in there that day or possibly any day!!

I have friends that lived in Miami also for years and years and now that they've moved away to other cities, they honestly are like me..they don't know how they dealt with it as long as they did. It's been said over and over on here that it's the people and I firmly believe that. Those that barely speak English love it of course..it's usually a step up from wherever they moved from and yet it has a lot of the same idiosynchrasies/craziness/attitude/bad driving/corruption/hot muggy weather, etc. yet it's the US and that's the defining factor for them...it's what they are used to but it just so happens to be a part of the US.

I don't know if I'd want to be in a rural area in that situation--then you'd have to deal with armed crazies who listen to Limbaugh and think the "federal gubmint" is spying on them from black helicopters. No thanks, I'll take my chances in the city.

ready2move .... I agree with some of your post .... but have a hard time understanding what you mean by do not miss what Florida has become ... what does that mean .... why does all of Florida have to suffer for the misgivings of Miami and South Florida ?

Why do posters on this forum constantly lump all of Florida with Dade , Broward and Palm Beach counties ... this just blows me away . Florida is a huge state and is very different in many ways ... Sarasota , Tampa and Jacksonville are as different from Miami as Atlanta is .... the Southern West Coast which I love ( Naples , Marco Island , Sanibel , Captiva , Ft.Myers ) is very different from the North East Coast where I was raised .

Go to North Florida .... Gainesville , Jacksonville , Panama City , Tallahasee , Destin and many other places in the region and people are as friendly as they are in Texas or Georgia ....... Just North of Orlando in Ocala and Deland there are beautiful areas with friendly people .... check out Brandon and New Tampa for great neighborhoods and nice English speaking people .... why slam all Florida for Miami and South Florida sins ... I will never understand that ?

By the way I lived in Alpharetta Georgia for seven years .... yeah it was nice as is Buckhead and Mid town but you can have the rest of Atlanta ... people were not as friendly as you describe and no many native Georgians do not like Floridians ..... traffic was the worst I have seen anywhere .... air quality is terrible ... just outside of Alpharetta and also South of Atlanta both the ghetto factor and redneck factor were bad .... crime in Atlanta is as bad as Miami .... just have English speaking criminals .... was Georgia ok ... yeah , would I live there again probably not .... I am a native Floridian who loves his state and will probably move back to North Florida ( Ponte Vedra ) when my contract is up down here in four years . I do recognize that taxes and the cost of living is high , but I have compared living in Weston to living in Alpharetta and the latter was really not much cheaper .

Anyhow I am glad you are happy in Georgia ... there are some things we miss about it .... but I am a Florida guy and still insist this great state has great areas to live in outside of South Florida .

I stand corrected, when I said "Florida" I meant Broward. I could always go into Pembroke Lakes Mall and carry a conversation with the sales people. But when I am approached in spanish, I find it unacceptable. I lived in Broward for almost 20 years and watched it change. I didn't like the changes, so I left. I have nothing but wonderful experiences thus far in Georgia so I guess to each its own.

I agree there are lovely areas of Florida. My son is in Tally at FSU and it's a great place.
