Douglas Gardens
One place that is huge and has an incredibly large and cheap (though I haven't been there in years) selection of furniture is the Douglas Gardens Thrift Store on NW 27th Ave. and 50-something street. It's been there for ages, and it's run by the Miami Jewish Home and Hospital for the Aged. I will warn you that the neighborhood is very undesirable, but if you go during the daytime, you shouldn't have any problem. There's tons of stuff, but a lot consists of 60s and 70s era furniture that has been acquired after people pass away, etc. Still, there's bound to be some interesting finds there.
Haven't been to the Flamingo Shops in Hialeah, or whatever it's called, but you might wanna give it a shot. I've read about those shops in the Neighbors section of the Herald. I don't know why someone posted that they would avoid Hialeah; you may experience some language issues, but other than that...

Hey I acutally checked this place out a few days ago. Just a heads up, expect to haggle. The many of the items are listed as if they're NEW!
E.g., I was walking around and was shocked at the high price tag for obviously used items (some in pretty bad shape). I ask one of the employees how much was a lamp (no price tag). She said $50!! I lost interest and she immediatley said $10. I think I could have bargained it to $5 if I really wanted it...

If you mean the Salvation Army's 9790 Bird Road "Family Store" location (Miami, FL 33165, 305-554-9669), then I have some news for you:
Sorry to burst your bubble, but that location is known for their employees pocketing the dough that they make there - note that their prices are quite high, and that the employees each have their "sections" on the floor...and are more then willing to "haggle" prices.
Just try to get a receipt when you make a purchase (particularly anything $50+), and you'll see that they get very nervous - they don't want any paper trails around there. They'll give you run around explanations until they get fed up with you - at that point, they'll just tell you to get the hell out of the store, and threaten to call the police. "Don't let me see you here again - if I do, I'll call the police" was the exact quote that I received from of one of the employees. Had I time on my hands, I would have called the police on these people myself. I'm pretty sure the majority of the other Salvation Army locations in Miami are rackets as well. When I went to take this complaint up the chain of command, I received a similar run-around up there, until they refused to answer my calls entirely.
My advice? Avoid these thieves at all cost. If everyone stopped going to them, perhaps the top offices would look into it and get these jerks out of these locations.
Take care, and thrift safe!

I live on Main St. In Miami Lakes and I shop at the Flamingo Plaza and have bought some nice pieces. You should try them out and they do deliver.

On weekends drive out of Coral Way and into parts of south west Miami (Shenandoa, Little Havanah) and I am sure you will find people having garage and/or estate sales. You might find soimething in one of those.
