I hate Bayside because it symbolizes the decline of Miami in the 80's. They destroyed the historic auditorium, library and park there to build this overpriced tourist trap- another shopping center. If I had my way it would be demolished and replaced by something better, even an empty lot.

Aren't some of the stores, or part of Bayside, built on whatever historic bulding was there at the time?
I know Bayfront park goes back to the early history of Miami.

I remember everything that was there being demolished in the 80's. They started with an empty lot and built Bayside from scratch. It did feel somewhat satisfying to see it a few years ago decaying and looking worse for wear than what was there.

That's the old main library, before they built the hobo courtyard that is used today.

I think the Japanese designer did somewhat of a poor job on the park myself.

I like Bayside... No one mentioned the concerts next door there too. I also lived across the street for a year. Even took a boat tour when a friend visited. Went to brunch there a few times. Evening walks. Never had a bad time there... Sometimes with Miami its not the place its the peoples attitudes. You can feel it everywhere you go as well as on this board. I have been all over the world and the nicest places have had nice people. This can not be said for Miami...

I personally don't have any negative opinions about Bayside. I think it is very Miami, for good or bad. It would be nice if they updated though...and say put the library there with the South Florida Hidtory Museum. Mix entertainment with education in a picturesque setting so the tourists and locals can mix it up. I also think opening a branck of Fairchild there or allowing them to landscape the park would make it an attraction in and of itself.

I think locals don't go to bayside because the stores are predominantly tourist oriented, it isn't convenient and you have to pay for parking. If the same mall was duplicated in West Kendall with run of the mill stores, it would be deemed a lifestyle center and it would have a megaplex movie theater andbe overrun with people desperately trying to overpay for things they don't need. It's all about location and market demand.

Byaside is good, and it has potential to become something more enormous. Maybe a change in facade or architecture might deliver the potential that it can offer.
