Latin American Cafeteria and their version of the Cuban sandwich were synonymous with fantabulous (if such a word actually exists)! On our most recent venture to Miami, Florida last November, we were quite disappointed to discover that this chain of cafeterias no longer was in service. What happened? Trying to find an equally good alternative was practically impossible. The only locale still up and running was the one at Bayside...definitely a downgrade from the one at Coral Gables, as it seems that Bayside may be trying to cater to the tourist palate by taming the flavors. So now, I can't look forward to that delectable creation of roast pork, pan cubano, jamon y queso con pepino anymore. Please don't mention La Carreta or Versailles. They only get a C+ for effort.

There is also one on LeJeune by the airport or is this the one you were talking about?
I have to agree their sandwiches are awesome...I have also had a sandwich at the one in Bayside and it was a waste of money. |

The Latin American we regularly visited was the one located within a mini-mall off the Palmetto Expressway (103). I also remember the one at Coral Gables, but the one off the Palmetto was the best. It was very strange when we last went in November. The lights of the place were on. The fountains which contained drinks were running. There was no one there though. Why is it so impossible to find the same quality sandwich in New York City?

We have made the trek to Jersey, but only tried some sandwich shops and restaurants along Bergenline Ave. No such luck!

There are several places in Dade County which play off the same name...latin Café, Latin America and Latin American. They are all mini chains...and the designs, themes and food are similar.
Do you mean the location in Miami Lakes, or the one in Hialeah? You wrote 103st...but there isn't one there...rather at 122St (next exit) east of the Palmetto. A good place to try, if you like the latin american feel, is Pedro's in Hialeah. Miami has an abundance of great Cuban food and restaurants. Enjoy trying some of the other ones out.... |
