With all the talk about paradise, what does Miami have now that it did not in 1957, when the average middle class family had the pick of most of Dade County?

Internet Archive: Details: Where the Sun Reigns

Today what can you get that was not available then? Is the scenery, fishing and the economy better now? What about the people? Tell me what has improved.

I remember just 6 years ago when we were coming out of Orlando, and we had a choice between Greensboro, NC and south Florida. When we did research into Broward County, it was a no brainer! Cleaner air quality, less crime, (surprisingly) better schools, decent climate, all for not that much more than Greensboro. Broward was what Dade used to be. Now, its too expensive to be worth it, unless you really do have a job that can afford to pay it, and Dade is just a total mess. If we had some new money jobs here, the price bubble might of made more sense. We don't. I still think that by most standards, even if you hate HOAs,crowds, etc, there are still good places to live in Broward, but not in Dade, and Broward is too expensive for anyone to come and enjoy it. Nothing is better in Dade. I could not imagine watching Miami decline to the state it has hit today. That, plus areas like Fort Lauderdale used to be positively pristine. Now, not so much (but that is just the typical outgrowth of the American city).

Miami was already a paradise, so what's to improve?

Exactly! It had its bad points then, but the positives overwhelmed the negatives. Now that it has filled up, it had tipped in the negative direction. There was nothing to improve, only destroy.
