We are Caucasian, however, we live in an extremely diverse are now. My children are used to going to school with a lot of other "types" ( scuse, the poor words, but nothing else is coming to mind). I do not want my children to be the minority, but I also do not want my children only being exposed to other white. Our plan would be to send our kids to private schools. Diversity or not, I haven't heard great things about the public schools in Miami-Dade, and we are used to a public school system that is nationally recognized.
I love all of the input, keep it coming. This is a decision I do not take lightly.

I am a retired MDCPS teacher, my children are current teachers. Sadly, what you have heard about our school system is probably pretty much on target. However, there are pockets of excellence and the Palmetto feeder pattern is one of them.

Your Caucasian children will be a minority in all public and, possibly, all private elementary schools. White, non-Hispanic students comprise only 9% of MDCPS students. http://www.broadprize.org/asset/1177...efactsheet.pdf The chart is for 2007-08 data. The percentage is no doubt lower in 2011.
