I agree, Palmetto HS is a OK school, but I think that Charter and Private schools are better.
And public high schools in Miami-Dade are generally bad ( or just fair ).

i don't mean to be rude but you've lived here for what all 3 months? it's not uncommon for people to get into fights during class, hell, i had a teacher in middle school who's trash can was set on fire while class was going on. they later went to destroy his computer and the classroom television; i could go on forever.

I dont need years of living here to know how bad or good schools are, to say 95% of any school system of this size is like what that man described is ridiculous, its no surprise you go to a rough school but its really unlikely "95%" of Miami-Dade schools are like that, its unlikely any school system has 95% of their schools being that bad in reality.

it's not 95% by all means and i apologize for stating it that way but it is way, way up there. i know so many people who just drop out because school overall isn't worthwhile, i have a teacher who needs at least half an hour for the class to settle down so she can begin. hialeah overall isn't a bad area yet you will soon find (by your own means) the schools are by no means good and it's the same for a vast majority of miami-dade's schools.
despite how "good" or "safe" the area is the schools still suck and you'll find your child is often being instructed by a recent arrival who barely grasps the english language. i used to have a recording of my algebra 2 class with a student arguing with the teacher because no one could comprehend him, if i find it i'll be sure to post it here.

Ive met with all my sons teachers regularly and all speak perfect english, actually only one of them is hispanic his spanish teacher and even she speaks perfect english. But yes I know Hialeahs high schools are horrible, the two being Hialeah and HML, but theres a new one by the gym I workout and another one under construction in Hialeah Gardens by okeechobee, lets see how these one turns out.
And the article is just sad not only for Miami but for this country, Miami ranking only 16 with such low rates means this country has some serious issues, I have my own beliefs about our goverments involvment or in this case dis-involvment in our childrens education, but thats another topic.

This sounds like Forest Hill High School here in West Palm Beach...
Do you go to American High?

I've golfed on the country club near there... I know that uses a Hialeah address, but is that considered Miami Lakes as well? That section just seems a lot nicer than the typical Hialeah we all know of.
