No, that area is considered the Country Club neighborhood, Miami Lakes is just south of Palmetto Expy and north of Gratigny Expy.

The American High School is in un-incorporated Miami-Dade so it uses the Hialeah address but in reality the neighborhood is called Country Club and is north of Miami lakes.

Here is my 2 cents.

- typically, public schools have different types of people, and different classes of people. But, for several reasons (status and lack of good public schools), in Miami any family with the money and many family who are invested in their children's education choose to send their kids to private school. That leaves you with many disadvantaged kids in public schools, many of whom aren't being monitored. Hmm...okay that's probably not what you want for your kid.

- private schools, on the other hand, tend to have excellent teachers, a high degree of structure, but have lots and lots of privileged kids. The problem here is that there is lots of pressure to look a certain way, to have certain things. It can be blatant and harsh. Prepare to see first graders with nannies, diamond earrings, and cell phones. Not that great either, in my opinion but probably the lesser of two evils.

Schools are one the big negatives about Miami. Generally speaking, it's a very superficial culture down there and the kids are reflective of that.

That being said, I personally believe that conscientious parenting and a firm set of beliefs regarding how you treat people and what is really important in life will go far.
