Just this week. Met a lady and her dog while at the dog park. Later, she invited me to a doggie get together in another park. I went, she was there plus more people and more doggies. One night a week after the dog park they all go out together and take their dogs to a dog friendly restaurant. We share dogs in common.

Yesterday, I saw some guy taking photos of flowers. I commented how beautiful they were. An hour later, I had his life story. We share photography and the appreciation of the natural fauna in common.

I was on a sales call with someone who had just moved to Pompano from Nashville. First 15 minutes we talked nothing but about being new here and how it compared to "home". We had relocation and the culture shock in common, so that was the initial conversation hook.

Unless you're socially challenged or don't have any interests or passion for anything, it's not hard to find conversion here at all. People here really like to talk and all you have to do is find commonality and they tend to open up like a clam and even more-so than other places I have lived.

There's also a certain tolerance for the bizarre and absurd here should you happen to be either. It's not a NYC tolerance, but closer to NYC than say in the Midwest.

I have a long list of problems with living in Miami and counting the days until I'm out (221), but finding friendly conservation and building longer term relationships should not one of them if you share common interests.

Personally I was thinking "Lovefest" myself, but I like orgy that's good! After all, it is Miami

Besides, it just goes to show, Miami's not all haters - there's a lot of love in Miami too. If you can't find it, you ain't lookin'...

And I'm not buying this bashful business anyways. I think what your problem is is just that you're a vampire, and you just can't come unless you're invited ...

Nice Latina

Just ask nicely, and I'm sure one of the nice Latinas will be happy to have you over.

Dog park eh? No sir, I don't go to those.

But you're right, the people ARE very open. But one of the odd things I noticed and you see it especially during the summer is a sort of "Shellback Ceremony" mentality amongst the locals. It's like you've got to get "jumped in" to South Florida and the Miami area and they never miss an opportunity to give you the hazing or initiation or whatever. For example, I was buying a disposable camera at the CVS off of the Dixie HWY over in CG and the guy there asked where I was from and when I told him I'm setting up to move to Miami from San Diego he said "Ok, but You gonna get robbed! Everybody gets robbed in Miami at least once. You gonna get robbed if you move here. I'm just sayin.....!!" He was a younger guy, about 18 so I just figured him for a dumb4$$. But there was the constant "you're gonna hate the weather here. It stays like this ALL NIGHT and lasts for 9 months" to which I'd like to reply "YES, I KNOW!! I'M STANDING IN IT!!!!!

"You're not in San Diego anymore! You're in big bad Miami now!"
"Ok! well um, --- I'm waiting!! Release the Marmosets or whatever!!!

Well I used to just leave my door open on my SoBe apt and something usually happened eventually. Or sit outside my building in a chair. Then something often happened. But then if you were to go for a walk in Overtown, well then something usually happens.

It's sorta like fishing dude. You just gotta throw a line out and wait.

Funny post and so true, but hey its simple and its actually pretty safe as i'm sure you've noticed by now. everyone just likes to talk crap about it because people usually come to miami without a clue of whats going on.. but i dont think anyone takes it seriously, and you can make friends without being robbed
