As far as clubs go, there are very few and limited to a few specific hobbies. Usually sports of some kind which I am not into, including cycling. It's a good suggestion, just not for me. I've joined a few clubs at school, but in general and in keeping with the Miami way of life, they're very disorganized and very few actually people participate. So it's not as if I have not tried to meet people and put myself out there, I have, but so far have really not been successful at all.
That does not make sense at all, it is no harder to meet people in Miami than any other city. Miami is filled with every type of person, not just the people who want to drink.

I can not think of a better place, with restaurants people walking etc than south beach.

South Beach was IMO way better back just a few years before it regained its big tourist draw. That was when people who lived all over SoBe were all different ages and they all lived there. But if it's still anything like it was, my suggestion is walk around on SoBe like Burglar says and spot a block (not Ocean Drive) or a building where you see a lot of people sitting out on the porches. If they look like fun, move there.

Another idea might be you just need a change of venue Blue. I know I did when I was 19. I had friends, but it seemed like life was stagnant and like a PP mentioned, felt like it wasn't really real. So I got away from MA and SoBe cured my blues in a big way. So much so that I consider it my hometown cuz it's where I was reborn. Sometimes, you just need to be the new kid on the block - shed your old skin - start over - brand new - no baggage. See if an entirely different group of people have an entirely different view of you.

Better yet, how 'bout a big azz CD Miami party! Pick some spot on the Beach, make some reservations, and have a blast. Have lunch together, go to the beach, have drinks, any or all of the above -

Everybody here is pretty much friends. Sure we all don't agree on every little thing but what fun would that be if we did? Of course I'm well outta town at the moment, but you guys should. And next year I may have a big blowout B-Day party on SoBe and I'll expect you all to be there.

Where can I go to meet people that doesn't require me to buy them a drink or show off?

College? A bar(you dont have to drink)? A park(get a dog)? A book store? Match.com? The beach? The library? A casino? A Short cruise? The keys? A Free event like a book fair or concert? A mall?

In that order, seriously.

Where do you live and what do you enjoy doing? We already know what You DON'T like. Let's here what you like.

Calle ocho is going on right now...and I'm less than three blocks away from it, but I just don't feel like going by myself.

He is going to end up alone in all those places... the best choice he has at the moment is college.

BBB, Try to look for friends who live near your area, otherwise you won't be able to get in touch with friends once the semester ends.

Move. Seriously - as soon as you can. I would suggest a mid sized city in the northeast or the midwest. Heck, for the time being, just take a vacation to one of these places, hang out at concerts, bookstores, public events and I think you will be quite pleasantly surprised. Many of the Miami lifers would have you believe the issue is with you, and that the culture of Miami has no role in someone being disenchanted here. Not necessarily so.
