I have seen them several times at my parents' house in the Keys and have seen them in South Miami/Kendall as well. I'm surprised people are saying that they haven't seen them that far south.

We spent a week on Henderson Island by St. Lucie county. The place was beautiful with seven swimming pools and the ocean within walking distance. It cost us a good penny for rent, air fare and renting a car. The bugs were so bad that we were driven off the beach and the pools were deserted. Last time we ever step foot in Florida, it was a complete and total waste of money and time.

Love bugs have a mating season, your vacation probably just fell in that time frame. Florida doesn't have a huge bug problem during the winter months (actually the best time to visit as many snowbirds know). Try coming then.

Love bugs are around in May and September. I don't think you're bothered by them on Miami beaches any time of year.

Too funny!

Perhaps they can only buzz in English?

The only bugs on Miami Beach are roaches and No-See-Ems. Fire Ants try to make inroads, but local kids love to smash up their mounds. MB is a mosquito no fly zone. I think they can't breed in salt water. It was the same in Boston. Roaches I could live with - and did in fact. No-See-Ems suck. Try to sleep on the beach overnight and you'll find out what they are. I think even roaches flea from them. 'scuse the pun!

Thank you for this post. You just changed my mind about moving to Parkland. I do not like love bugs.
