Do you consider Miamians to be open minded people? Please explain why, don't just say YES or NO.

Define open minded? Miamians seem racist to me, so is that close minded or just prejudice?

Compared to the rest of Florida, yes Miami is open minded. For the most part Miamians are excepting of different faiths, gays, lifestyles, etc. Yes we do have some that aren't as excepting of people different themselves, but they are in the minority (not speaking race minority).

I would say like most places there are groups that are bigoted towards everyone but their own.

I would say overall it's fairly open minded... it has a ways to go, but it's getting there.

Certainly better than the majority of other places in FL and the south!

On the beach maybe, but most people I know here oppose homosexuality. They might say they don't mind it, but the way they talk about it is pretty nasty sometimes.

Miami might be better than the rest of Florida, but there's a long way to go.

What areas overall you think Miamians could do better? So far we know of the usage of the N word and acceptance of LGTB community... I can't say much of the ladder since I've only heard a guy using the word "maric@n" in a very disrespectful manner only once, other than that not so much. My family, and their congregation as well, don't think much of gays; a big let down, considering that my mom's best friend during her youth was gay...

Tolerance depends on context, no? I make jokes about just about every group under the sun (including any you could put me into). Does that make me a self-loathing bigot? No, I just feel that we need to be able to laugh at ourselves. I think the difference is when you choose to exercise those comments though--doing so in a professional or public environment is pretty low.
