Default Guitar Lessons

Anyone have any experience with any places that offer guitar lessons here in Miami?

JUST begin playing structured noise (not just whatever) and meet people who would like to play with you. Being in a band will give you more innovation and musical knowledge - you'll learn from your mates (styles, gears, bands, etc..). It's very educational and fun, unless you want to become a professional guitarist... for that you'll need to go to a conservatory.

If you are just looking for a person to teach you the notes (something that you can do by yourself), you are gonna end up paying to a guy who, literally, might be only "one session" ahead of you.

I am pretty much playing structured noise at this point and the intros to some songs. I know how to hold the guitar, know some chords and how to read tab. I have yet to find anyone who plays in terms of friends, so that's a no go for now. Any ideas how I might meet such a person? I was hoping attending a group guitar lesson might help with that aspect, that was my choice prior to lesson, but a band is not gonna want me because I can't really play, yet. Unless I find a band where everyone is just starting. Makes sense though.

Unless I find another alternative in the next week, it's gonna have to be lessons...

Well, you have 3 alternatives then:

1) Go to a conservatory, not just a random guy who knows his notes, and get closer to your teacher. He will have lots of contacts. Also, there you might find other beginners, like you, who are looking for band mates. There you'll not only find guitarists, but newly bassists and keyboardists as well. - - all of them noobs, so don't feel intimidated.

2) Go to gigs and find future bandmates <<< To be honest, this one is the hardest one. Most of the people attending gigs are way to cocky or think too much of themselves.

3) Ads on craiglist, but that's a long shot, especially if you don't have mp3's to show.

What's your area?

My friend used to go to a conservatory in Sunset and 117 (BJ's)

You might want to consider buying a distortion pedal to further your noise and effect sounds/skills. But you'll know what you need as you go... it's a process.

They have group lessons at MDC. I know nothing about them but I got a flyer yesterday with community classes and I did notice that they offered group and private lessons.
