Is Miami Beach the Only nice place to be in near Miami?
Miami beach of course I know it's a different city. But is that where it's all at? Miami beach is the idea I get when being out there; nightlife, jet skiing, gorgeous beaches, palm trees, nice houses, , cruises, yachts, people getting money seems like a GREAT place for me. That's what I think of when I think of miami area but at the same time I question if it really is, hearing how crime ridden, and much poverty it has. From what I've read is that Miami mainland is a dump/3rd world country for the most part with the exception of SOME nice places? So is Miami Beach the ONLY place where it's happening??
I was looking for some nice suburbs possibly, Boca Raton, but that is still 1 hour away from where it's all at, I hear Boca Raton is boring. I guess if you want the best out of Miami area it is going to be Miami Beach am I right? Also how bad are hurricanes down there, I know they let you know in advance, but do people in miami worry about if a hurricane comes and destroys everything?
Things that interest me about miami is the culture, I'm spanish decent, I like nightlife, I'm younger, and I'm a businessman and I am single, but is it a place to stay or is it a place just to party? I love to party don't get me wrong, but I wanna feel at home too if you get what I am saying.
Another option of mine is living near San Diego,CA, I've been reading debates on city data vs the two, but Miami Beach seems more full of energy, as compared to San Diego, also beaches are clearer, and white sand, and warmer all year weather.
But I don't know if pro's outweigh the cons for living in Miami, is it outweighed more with Cons? Such as crime, poverty, etc. Is 3/4 of the actual city of miami mainland 3rd world/poverty? I've looked at google maps of Miami FL and MOST of the places I drag the little guy to is ghetto, I'm sorry (this is the mainland) is this how most of Miami is?
What would you recommend the best parts to live, and affordable, and what do you have to say about the hurricane situation over there?

I lived in Miami Beach, the Grove and then in the Everglades.
You want an honest opinion? I liked Miami Beach the best. There is definitely an energy there. I didn't like the fact that I had problems finding parking and I didn't like the non stop horn blaring all day and night but I sure did like living on the beach. I think, with what you wrote, you would like it.
If you decide to live there, it's going to cost you. And whatever you do, FIND A PLACE THAT INCLUDES PARKING! You will never regret that if you do.
Not 3rd world, not the ghetto , but when i read that most of Miami is ghetto..kind of disappoints me..
I wanna be somewhere that is affordable, I seen the prices of rent in Miami beach, 1500 for 600 sq feet? are you kidding me? Where is somewhere nice, that doesnt have prices/ or crimes through the roof? Like I said I am a businessman so I have money, but I'm not willing to spend it all in one day either. Somewhere comfortable to live in, and easy to access Miami Beach, even if it's not in Miami beach. I wouldnt mind living in a condo downtown I guess? I dont know how bad that would be.....

I lived downtown in the Downtown II Lofts 2008. I liked it a lot but hate condo rules and being so close to typicle Miami people. I remember how I had my hands full with groceries and these 2 girls inside the condo wouldnt open the door for me. I would ride my bicycle or motorcycle to the beach every weekend. Hated when the condo decided to charge for motorcycle $50.00 a month. My friends came to visit and got their car towed because a movie was being made and no one told us... $300. Seen a few cars broken into. But I could take the Metro to Publix, LA Fitness, and other nice places (the rail runs through the building ). I would go to Bayside quite often to eat, hangout, or see concerts. AA Arena right there. Some clubs if I wanted to.
Overall Ok but yea the place was $1000 a month and 700 sqft.

What do you mean by 3rd world poverty ? Give me an example. I definitely would not consider Brickell and Coconut Grove poor areas.

Just search Miami,FL on google maps, and drag the little guy anywhere, most of the houses and neighborhoods look like they live in poverty, and aren't very well taken care of. I don't know if I am searching all the wrong places, but the vast majority I've seen is ghetto, with the exception of some areas of course.
Brickell, Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, South Miami, Aventura are some places that might suit you (I'm leaving out nice suburban areas since that doesn't seem to be what you're looking for). Metropolitan Miami does have bad neighborhoods, yes, but it is by no means definitive of the whole area.
In my experience most locals (including the ones with money) don't go to Miami Beach except on occasion. Being the "place to be" comes with the territory of being surrounded by tourists and high prices, which most people don't want to deal with.
The rest of Miami has plenty of good areas. Brickell, South Miami, Dadeland, Aventura, etc.
I would add Miami Shores to this list; I love Miami Shores!
