I thought maybe it had improved to maybe around 12%, but no... it's still one of the worst in the nation of the big metro areas.

Unemployment up in South Florida, and back to a record in Miami-Dade - Business Breaking News - MiamiHerald.com (http://www.miamiherald.com/2011/06/17/2271446/unemployment-up-in-south-florida.html - broken link)

and yet we'll still get these threads like "hey, can I move to Miami without a job???????, Is Miami for me??????? Is Brickell cooooooool????????? Do we have to speak Spanish????????I like to party on the beach, is Sobe the place for me?????????"

Come on now, where are all the so called business hawks claiming Miami is the hot spot for business because of ties to Latin America?

Well if anybody cared to read the article there were numerous federal jobs(middle-class) lost plus the census had been taken when the market had flattened out, where there were numerous job gains in April 2010 the Census Bureau(10-year count) added on workers when summer rolled around. Tourism did not have much of an effect on unemployment as when May comes hiring slows down.

I still like Miami, I am quite happy living here and enjoy it very much.

But that does not mean I am not critical of things here, nor turn a blind eye to the obvious problems that need improvement.

If Miami -Dade county did not work so hard to discourage business perhaps things would be different. Seriously, the real estate speculation has driven up costs and driven away those looking for a better quality of life.

The real rate is over 20% and if you include those working part-time unwillingly, it might be 30%

lol no its no where near 30% sorry if you have actually lived in a city or country with high unemployment, you would see the side effects everywhere.. and you dont in miami.. if anything its as high as 25% nothing higher.

the real rate is probably around 16-18% many people work crappy jobs just scrapping by down here
