The second picture of the LA one just looks incredibly overcrowded and CA is so expensive. The bay area looks pretty cool but I know its off the wall expensive as well
The HOUSING costs in LA and San Francisco are much higher than Miami; however, as a tourist you won't be trying to buy a house. Just a hotel room.

Granted in August you'll pay LESS in Miami than if you were to visit Miami say from Dec. to Feb. (high season).

If I had to guess room rates for a hotel in LA, San Fran., and Miami would be about the same (except in winter when I am guessing Miami Beach is MORE).

Does it seem as if we are Angels and Demons, Scotty, battling for possession of your very soul? Who knows which is which? Certainly not the one who's soul is being battled over! Perhaps the Devil has always had your best interests at heart after all!

All the talk about the heat doesnt bother me one bit. I love the heat, warm weather, and sunshine. I landed in Houston a month ago and it was 98 degrees, felt great. I was outside in the Arizona sun for about 10 days playing golf and laying at the pool and I didnt get sunburnt at all, except a small area on the top of my nose. I played golf last Wednesday afternoon when it was 107 degrees in Scottsdale, it was a little bit warm for about a half hour but other than that the 100 degree weather was awesome and I loved it. Thanks again for everyones input!
dry heat is different than wet heat. dry heat is painful. wet heat is like being in the bathroom after a shower.

Houston a month ago was Houston in May. That is NOTHING to how it will be in August for Houston OR Miami. (I believe Houston rivals Miami, can win out, actually, in the "heat, kill me now, humidity" department...yes, I lived there for a year.)

Arizona is not as far south as Miami. Keep that in mind before you go thinking you won't get burned without taking precautions. I used to work in the tourist industry in Miami. If I had a dollar for every person that thought they could "handle" the sun, and showed up red, red, red, some so red it was painful to even look at, I'd be retired with my own island by now.

As cixcell said, dry heat is WAY different than wet heat. It can be 98 degrees there, (Miami), and you might think, "that's less than 107 that it was in Phoenix, so what" but you don't realize what the humidity that gets horrible down there, can make it really feel like. (Yes, cixcell, it is that bad...which is one of the reasons I moved.)

You should go down there. You should enjoy yourself. I'm just telling you, be prepared.

I say that Miami will be more uncomfortable but you will also get to see impressive rain and thunderstorms as a trade off. Now regarding things to do, that is up to your own interests, so you should make the call there.

BTW the ocea here at that time of year is near 90, I know, it sounds great, but it is too hot to be swimming in. You feel like you need to get out, it gets to a point where it is uncomfortably hot. You may wade in it for a while and then will be over it fast. But the pictures did do Miami justice...and you have heard the good and the bad so now you make the call.

Yeah, it's like the water is "softer". It's weird, but that's the general effect you get. Same thing with the air in Miami. The air is "velvety" if you know what I mean, and it is as fragrant as a perfume. LA has nothing on that!

Hell like. Hight humidity, high dew point (mid 70's), rain every afternoon, temps in the 90's and typically that is the peak of hurricane season. Enjoy!

I think the ocean feels slightly cool in August - it's just right! I only like to swim in the summer or the water feels freezing to me. 90 is almost 10 degrees cooler than the body so I don't know how that would feel hot. I don't even think the Gulf feels hot in the dead of summer. So I guess it depends on the person.

I like the dry AZ heat too. It's much easier for me to be outside in 100+ dry heat than 90 degree humid heat. You don't stink either. That's a nice plus too.
