Let's face the facts. The Overall Culture of Miami is rude, and if a "me first attitude" is what you're comfortable with - then Miami is the place for you. But if you like friendly, good service, Miami is not for you. If you like people that like to at least say hello, then Miami is not for you.
these are not "facts" -- they are your experience and opinion, which is all good and to which everyone is entitled - but that doesn't make it universal fact.

that has not been my experience living in Miami. of course my POV is only that as well, an opinion -- but i've found service & retail people to be friendly and helpful, no issues with slow or surly service; in general in shops, restaurants, supermarket, gas stations, post ofc, repair services, etc, i've been met with good service overall; not always stellar, but decent - i haven't experienced 'rudeness' as a generality. people are generally friendly towards me, overall. And people greet me and say hello all the time, even just walking along on the streets.

some of the other info posted (insurance, jobs, etc) - is measurable and could be stated as fact - but i do get tired of the blanket statements that it's not a friendly place to live, people are rude, etc ... that is subjective. and it just hasn't been what i've experienced.

The con here is I don't trust the OP as he is a 2-post person, this person does not come across as a newcomer way too much information for just a couple of posts as he probably has had former usernames.

thats possible but it also follows the pattern of someone whos been reading through the forum posts and wants to create an account to put in their 2 cents. people typically either love or hate miami. and those who hate miami typically feel strongly enough about it to create an account to voice their opinion.

Is it against the TOS to mention these alleged stores where people are getting good service???? I would live to know. It seems that whatever stores I go to, it is the same lethargic, annoyed and unhelpful employees. You would think in a recession people would somewhat value their jobs and try to at least appear to be somewhat helpful but no. Likewise, can we post where we have had poor service?? I don't think this is allowed...but I can say, places with atrocious customer service are the rule in Miami and places with good customer service are the minority.

Whenever I see someone classifies Miami as having either friendly people or good customer service, I equate that insanity with someone being pleased by New York City's slow, laid back pace that makes the city feel so relaxing.

As a fair and impartial observer, and a Miami fan, I cannot fault someone for opening a new thread. Especially since most forums will crucify you for re-opening and bumping old threads.

the only rudeness I encounter in Miami is on the road, which isn't personal. I live Downtown and in my building, most people say hello, or greet you in the elevator. I do not think that Miami is particularly rude or friendly. It's a big city and all big cities are impersonal. In a big city, to make friends, you have to go the extra mile and seek people out. This is not Iowa or Idaho, where people will say hi to you in the street and will fake-friend you for no reason. Personally, I like it that way. Miami is a place that seems like it's un-diverse and unwelcoming, but it's a place where you have to seek it out, as you will reap the rewards if you put in the effort (I did). There is little and nothing that you cannot find here, trust me on that.

Yes!

I am always shocked at how nice the cashiers are at Publix, even those whose first language isn't English. They bag your groceries for you, FFS! In the UK, they do not do that! If you make the effort to engage people, much of the time, your efforts will not be wasted. This is what I have found in Miami (and also in Denmark, where I also managed to make friends in a place where the naysayers said it would be difficult).
