Short term efficiency rentals. Key Largo?? (Villas, Florida City: hotel, homes, safe area)

I was wondering if anyone knows of a short term rental place. I will be in the Florida City area for 6 weeks for work. I was looking for a efficiency rental, or a shared rental with everything included. I was leaning more towards Key Largo. Nothing fancy I will be working 6 or 7 12 hour days. I usually just stay at a hotel but those can get very pricey. Oh I am looking for a SAFE area.

Most short-term rentals here tend to be expensive, but there seem to be some individuals renting their properties. The Florida Bay club and Key Largo Villas seem popular with tourists though. Most of Key Largo is safe.

A lady contacted me about renting a room, gated community seems safe. I hear lots of horror stories about homestead. She is offering the room $250 a week I think that is reasonable. what do you think? The only thing I hate is I like to take my hand gun when I travel I won't be able to on this trip. Don't ask why I just get nervous not having it. Maybe it's time to bring back the sack of door knobs
