Those were the "clerks", the real promoters were bankers and politicians living very far from Miami.

Funny thing is that Chileans can come over with that visa and it seems they decide not to. lol
Do you mean a big international city known around the world?
I'd rather have that than a large Liberty City or Bronx over the sea.

Really don't know where you are going with that comment. My point is Colombians built Miami to a world known destination, not Cubans. Miami Cubans like to pound their chest by saying they built Miami, which is a bold face lie. So go choke one with the whole Liberty city and Bronx comment.

If you open the flood gates, the ignorant peole will follow. If Colombians flooded Miami like Cubans do, you'd say the opposite. Plus, I love my Colombian friends but if you think Cuban pride is bad, Colombians are worse.

I remember one time me and my friends (all latino of different backgrounds. Cuban, Nica, PR, and even a Brazilian) all just had to rag on our Colombian friend because she just kept on talking about how awesome Colombia and Colombians are like we care about that. "Americans" hate anything that resembles that type of talk because it is "disloyal" but obviously other Latinos understand it is really just an ethnic pride thing so you have to understand how fed up we were to just pile on her for talking about that and it wasnt her, we just used her as the punching bag to represent all overly proud colombians.

Me? I dont really identify with anything besides a generic latino-american label as my background is 2 countries I never visited and understand that pride is BS since its not like you can get along with all your countrymen. A lot might look at me with disdain simply because I'm not light.

Because Miami was already a World Destination when there were no Colombians or Latins in Miami, except Cuban exiles.

Plus, Colombians and South Americans in Miami at that time, 60's, 70's and 80's were all from rich white families from those countries, cosmopolitan people that lived in Brickell, Key Byscaine and Bal Harbour.

There were not the type of people that have been arriving since the late 80's and early 90's that look like their maids.

The same thing is happening among Cuban, first came the owners of the country from 59 to early 70's..and then maids, squatters living in their properties and scum in general that looked like their maids, added to the fact that most are Fidelistas that hate Cuban Miamian exile with the same envy and hate than Latins.

Really, I don't understand people that hate Cubans and live in Miami, some sort of masochism, just as hating Jews and going to NY, plain stupid. The city won't change and will become more Cuban, and Broward and WPC will receive the "cuban flight"..so, those people (mostly latins because others are assimilated) should find their own turf in the US. Some place 90 miles from South America.

Actually the Cuban American population that chooses to live in Miami is overwhelmingly pro-capitalist and visciously anti-Castro and they never look back on Cuba except to pay respects to relatives they can't get over to the other side, to the point that they live Liberally in terms of social norms, but vote Republican. There may be pro-life reasons also for their Republican vote, but pretty much all the other Latino ethnic groups in Miami vote majority Democrat, with the exception of Cuban Americans (who comprise more than 1/3 of the Miami-Dade county precincts). They are clearly a distinct ethnic group and demographic behavior shows it.

As a result, the South Florida 2000 election results went like this, excluding Nader's share of the vote and undecided voters from the count

Palm Beach County / 64% Gore. 36% Bush
Broward County / 69% Gore. 31% Bush
Miami-Dade County/ 53% Gore. 47% Bush

The Cuban Miami population is just one of many factors that absent it, Bush would never have been in the White House

Cubans that visit Cuba are very recent arrivals, not belonging to the traditional exile that are in their third generation now. Cuban-Americans that you find in Cuba are people that were living there a few years ago, they might have their mother or brother there and non-confiscated houses, not the case of exiles that never return to Cuba,

There are ethnic groups that are a total fiasco and a social disaster, apart from being dangerous, that receive 100 times more benefits than Cubans that serve for nothing. Every dollar invested in those communities is like burning that money, plus Cubans and Latins push ahead while those push downwards and provoke riots.

It goes to show the arrogant nature of a people who lay claim to something that they did not do.
