Why is a bus painted as a trolley called a trolley?

A tram (also known as a tramcar, streetcar, trolley car) is a passenger rail vehicle which runs on tracks along public urban streets and also sometimes on separate rights of way.

Maybe because people are more apt to ride a trolley in Coral Gables than if they called it a bus and it looked like a bus.

Personally, I think buses look better than trolleys, but of course if I lived in an area where the trolley was more convenient to use, I'd take it over the bus. But as far as looking at it from the outside goes, I prefer the buses.

But I guess it brings back nostalgia. I remember when I visited Miami, the trolley had wooden seats to make it look more old-fashioned.

I think the metromover is an elevated trolley, like the one in Disney. I think trolleys are convenient for not short, but not long, distances. In my humble opinion what you see in CG is a bus, not a trolley. They just painted it as one and also did some operations to its internal parts...

Word n da street is, Coral Gables aint got no trolley. So y call a bus a trolley if it aint? It got no juice...

I THINK metromover would be considered a "Tram". But your point is well taken and just goes to show why metro mover should be expanded. I think they should use metrorail as the backbone for long distances and when you get into certain areas, deploy the metromover to get around those areas. For example at the coconut grove station on US1 they should have a metromover that connects there and crosses US1 headed east and heads into the grove. From there there should be stops at cocowalk, peacock park, and maybe one other location (not sure which). Or even have the metromover run from the last termination in brickell and down biscyane blvd and into coconut grove, with the same stops I mentioned before. The leg could terminate at the coconut grove metrorail station.

Metromover is much quieter which would make it ideal for going into areas that are a bit more residential like wynwood, design district, buena vista, edgewater, coral gables (downtown) etc.

Probably because the so called trolley is more local that a Metro Bus, and they wanted to appeal to that era of a time gone by. Practical with a touch of gimmick.

No, it stops every couple of blocks, just like a bus would.
