Most people overseas learn British English, and the slang factor, or the combinations of words, is too American and natural for the poster to be not from the US in some way.

Not saying this is absolute, I could be completely wrong, and this does not imply anything negative about the poster.

The poster complains about heating oil costs, but yet thinks prices here are some kind of steal, makes zero sense. He mentions freezing cold and snow, but heck, it really does not snow often or much in Athens (not even a dusting when I was there), and it does not get severely cold, he is acting like he lives in Canada or something. It gets just as cold in Miami sometimes as it does Athens, but Athens has a longer prolonged winter of temps in the 50's. The temps rarely dip into the 30's, with the 40's being the average low temp.

Now, he could live up north in the mountian areas or something and just state Athens is his home just for familiarity sakes, but why does he just not move to Athens then, out of the mountains?
Of course he is fake.

This is a Miami lover troll(yes we have those too, they are not all bashers)... Like HarryMiami or Harrycrat. In fact is very likely they are the same person, and he is being obvious about it on purpose. He is just waiting for someone to tell him he is Harry.

Harry welcome back

the Miami forum is the worst forum in City Data so don't get discouraged. A lot of angry posters in here. Miami is a city with outstanding potential. Great weather, great food, great beaches and nightlife. It has professional basketball and baseball and evolving downtown and its airport is being modernized. However, the city lacks good schools, an expansive public infrastructure (car dependent city), diversity. Largely latinos with diversity in this group, but to an outsider you won't notice the difference. It will just seem like a lot south Americans everywhere. I am not passing judgement, just pointing out the lack of diversity that you would get in NYC, Chicago or the other big cities. Finally, no Fortune 500 companies are headquartered in MIA. With all the said, Miami is trending the in correct direction and will one day be outstanding city.

Those who bought in during this cycle have purchased a prices that we won't see again in our lifetimes.

Thanx.
Coming from socialism,I tell u positively, don't buy the mass transport myth. It is a nightmare, especially with so many people infected by viruses...Common flu,Asian flu, chicken flu,hepatitis,TB...

Sick people & punks "occupy" the mass transport.( There's a nice scene in "The Specialists ").

Better with cars & carpooling...

The Gulf FL does not have "glamour"...
You can keep the glamour, it makes me want to vomit.

The Gulf is warmer, period. I don't know where you got this information...

Also, unless there is actually an oil spill, Gulf beaches are cleaner. Atlantic beaches have tar balls from offshore bilge dumping.

Gulf beaches are also a LOT prettier. The Atlantic has waves, but the beaches just do not compare. Outside of surfing, the Gulf beaches win hands down.

I personally hate traveling via mass transportation, but there are lots of people that can't afford a car so mass transportation is very important to their livelyhood and quality of life. Those that live in communities with little transportation have a lower quality of life. I think for a city to be considered world class it has to have a relatively robust infrastructure.

I agree with you about viruses and common cold. I've been working in Manhattan the last three years and use mass transportation to get to the office. Before this time, I always drove to work. I have never been sick this often in my life. It is the number of people I am exposed to. Yuck.

Pretty good post. No mention to the Dolphins? Yes not in the city limits but still in Miami. The Florida Panthers (NHL team) they are a bit far. 45mins north of Miami. Miami does lack all those things but diversity for an American city it does not. Besides for NYC and LA there is no other city as diverse as Miami. You say Chicago maybe I can give you Chicago just for the sake of not having a huge debate over it. Besides for Hispanics, Haitains, Jamaicans, Brazilians (not "spanish hispanic) Russians, Italians..

Southeast FL coast will be warming than the Southwest FL coast. The Gulfstream which the very warm current of water coming going north is sometimes only miles off the shores of South East Florida. The water off Miami Beach on a sunny day is crystal clear. The best in the continental US. IMO. As for the sand yes, West Coast will be nicer due to less people which is nice some times.

People make the mistake of wanting to come here because they want to escape the failing countries that they live in, but the problem is that America is no longer what it use to be. Over the years America has become Europeanized. We have expanded our entitlements programs to a level that has bankrupted us, we have raised a generation of young people that feel entitled and we have raised our corporate tax rates to the highest in the world so that we forced business out of country. America use to be a great place, but now we are bankrupt and the worst is yet to come. I would tell you not to come here if you think it will be better. We are having riots on college campuses, in Denver, LA, Boston, NY, etc.

I have a Polish friend who said he left Poland to get away from exactly what is going on in America. Now he doesn't know what to do.

President Obama has passed Obamacare, which we have no idea how to pay for and we are bankrupt. Supposedly, it will be paid for by the state's expanding existing medicaid programs, but the state's are broke. Can CA, IL, NJ, NY really expand medicaid when they can't pay their bills now?

Stay where you are is my advice...coming here is going to be awful for the next decade as we figure out how to pay for all these things and solve our debt crisis. Tax the rich is the President's plan, but there aren't enough rich people to pay for all these things...then what?

I say stay home and be happy where you are.

I forgot about the Dolphins and Panthers. Also, you have great boating, scuba and snorkeling. We were in Key West recently and went snorkeling, parasailing, and jetskiing. It was great. We spent the first night in Miami at the Viceroy and then flew to Key West the next morning. Great trip.
