Sorry, but "no long commute" by bus to South Beach really doesn't exist, unless you actually live in South Beach. Even from downtown Miami or North Beach, which are on a direct bus line (S, 120), you're talking about 30-45 minutes, depending on traffic and where exactly you get off the bus. It is THAT slow, and this is why we really need a Metrorail connection! At night service is not very frequent-every half hour or hour.

With that established, the safest Caribbean community with relatively good bus service is probably North Miami Beach. Generally, the closer to US1 and the beach, the safer it is. A second possibility is the Colonial Drive area of south Dade, which is near the Busway, but you would have to live in one of the apartments close to US1 to be in reasonable distance of transit.

The thing is that to get to Miami Beach from the areas by the busway is even harder. You'd have to take the #38 to the MetroRail (or #500 bus if you're traveling overnight), and then take a bus to South Beach (and the "S" is the only one that runs overnight)

Maybe the area around North 79th Street/Biscayne Blvd would work. The "L" and #3 run 24/7, and the "L" serves South Beach.

the only true JA'n community is Lauderhill, in Broward county -- 45 minutes from miami beach and that's driving; i have no idea how long it is on public trans.

North Miami and North Miami Beach are more Haitian, African, and Trini.... not many Jamaicans.

NM and NMB are much closer to South Beach, but still as others have said, it's a longish commute from all these neighborhoods.
