I'm starting a new job in Bal Harbour in January. Though I will have the option of returning to my job in the Bay Area for 3 months, I do expect to like the change.
However, to keep my options open, I don't want to get involved in a lease for the first few months. Extended Stay is too expensive. I'd like to live as close to work as possible e.g. Surfside.
If there are two things I've learned from you all reading this forum over the past few months, it's, 1. traffic is horrendous so live close to work, and, 2. live on "the island" until you get to know Miami!!

Would house sitting or a room rental be an option?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Both may be options, with the former being less likely.

Your best bet would be to contact an agent. You may be able to land a short term lease by offering slightly more in rent each month (eg- $100-$150) over what the landlord is asking.

The best things is what you said live as close to your work as possible. You will be here at high season, so housing sitting probably will not be an option as most people want to be in South Florida this time of year. May is when High season stops pretty much and the low season starts. You might in looking at renting a room from someone.
