I remember in '88 Miami Springs had and asbestos problem, so we had to share
with Hialeah High for a half year, so the Hialeah kids started at 7:30am and Springs started at 12:30pm.

What a great time that was!
I graduated from Miami Springs (Asbestos High) in 1988 and yes it was a great time! To this day I regret never buying the warning sticker that said Asbestos or something like that. Most people stuck it on their yearbook.
The best part was being able to sleep in, or going to work BEFORE school, then going to school, and having nothing to do for the rest of the day.

I remember the split shifts too. I had them in Rockway Jr. High in the 70's. 7th grade had the morning shift, 8th had the afternoon shift and 9th was half and half. My son also had a few months of split shift after Hurricane Andrew. His elementary had to share it's campus with another school that was destroyed.

Well I didn't graduate from a Miami high school. But I did go to American High for my 10th grade year back in 1998. You know. The High School with no windowwwwws and it's fully carpeteddddddddddddd and and its lonnnnngggggg. Though everybody in my neighborhood wanted to go to Carol City since it was closer and a bit more wild to say the least. I think sports was another reason why people wanted to go to CC. But American's diversity was a huge huge strength IMO. Haven't been around that area in about 5 years. That year only 10-12 people can go off campus to eat. 9th graders had to stay on campus and I think that was first year we had to wear ID's. Went back to Texas for 11th and 12th but 10th grade was the best by far.

My Mom graduated from American High in 1979 though.
