I seen some videos of this thing and honestly this looks like a frakkin GHETTO APOCALYPSE. I've never been to this event and have -100 incentive to go, and I can relate. I am Hispanic (and Arabic but more Hispanic) and every year we have multiple parades over here in NYC they are absolute zoo's. One of them being the Puerto Rican Day parade in Manhattan and West Indies parade in Brooklyn.

Now, I am not against big events but lets be real, most of these "Urban" parades are absolute trash and do nothing for the people and environment. Sure, there's events like Ultra (which I NEED to attend) where people are using drugs and partying it up but at least they are keeping in a concentrated area and aren't spewing any negativity amongst each other and harming other people. People in ULTRA drink, smoke, take E but there's a big difference because they're not going around shooting at each other, fighting over stupid colors and trying to "one up" one another over some gang related B.S. No one at ULTRA is looking to shoot one another, looking for beef. Events like ULTRA people are there simply for a common interest in the music (and sure, some drugs).

I'm just using ULTRA as an example. I have friends who are big into the hip-hop scene and even they don't want to touch that event. Plus, Ubran Beach Week shouldn't even be Urban Beach Week. Its a memorial day weekend! Throw a concert in appreciation for the troops and veterans, the men and women who risk and who have died for this country.

Throwing a concert/parade/festival would be much safer, MUCH better and MUCH, MUCH more appropriate. Having hooligans starting a war over the weekend is NOT what should be happening. This is all ass backwards.

I'm sorry but if us Hispanic and Black people want to have festivities without being looked at as mongrels, we have to STOP behaving like freaking mongrels.

I'm afraid the violence may back up into Brickell..... People coming down here are angry about the shoot out last year. They want retribution. If they can't get to the beach because of the traffic, they may bring their violence here,,,,,,I'm actually leaving the city and going to Broward.......

News from the Urban Weekend front... Have word that stopping cars to ask for IDs on the causeway has resulted in most cars turning around and going away! What have others seen/heard?

I've heard attendance is down, but it's still early. I was thinking about going down to do some photography, but since it's going to be such a hassle, I probably won't. Anyway, the cars won't be promenading this year, and that was what I really wanted to photograph. Guess that means the stripper bus won't make an appearance, either.

"Urban Beach Weekend" related? Or just random Miami craziness?
