Just an interesting article in Miami leading the nation in migration from other parts of the U.S. and internationally which was about a 50/50 split between the two. Here is the article:

Miami area tops nation by adding 196 migrants per day both international and domestic - The Business Journals

Always good post some good news

Hopefully, espcially the people who migrate from other parts of the U.S. already have jobs. I think getting a professional job in the area is not as hard as many make it out or as bad. Yes it's not like DC or NYC but if you have the right skills and degrees there are jobs in Miami. I think service industry jobs or jobs that do not require a degree are harder to get down here. Just from my experience.

And yet Miami was in the top 5 in out-migration for people 25-34 between 2005-10:

Young Adults Choose "Cool Cities" During Recession | Brookings Institution

Almost seems like the trend is to go get some experience elsewhere when initially out of school, then maybe come back a few years down the road.

I wonder if they consider "investors" buying vacation homes as domestic immigrants? That would seem to be a large part of the new growth....or at least people on extended vacations. But more interesting would be to see how long in domestic immigrants stay in Miami is. I am guessing it would be short. Even international immigrants seem to move on when they realize what the job situation and cost of living is.

I do not understand why gaining population is implied to be a positive thing, just as I do not understand why losing population is implied to be a negative thing.

Because you need a younger population to replace the older generation...or else communities die out. Think Detroit.

Of course, stable and consistent slow growth is much healthier that gangbuster growth.
