To the person who rep'd my post about AIDS- I agree it is not a funny matter or something to laugh about. What I find interesting and amusing is that somebody would worry about the number of HIV/AIDS infected people in a certain area and not move to it if it were higher than the national average.

I've honestly never heard of such a question.

Highly recommend Brickell. It's walkable with a lot of nice restaurants and bars, a lot of the apartments/condos are very new so you won't have to worry about shoddy construction, and the area attracts most of the young professionals in Miami.

Kind of curious what your perception of good/bad is...

If any one in this age range can give me their view points of the pros and cons of living in this area I would appreciate it. Also could you please recommend some nice areas for a young health professional with no kids. Thanks
It's all true, a lot of HIV+ in Miami and Broward.

It wasn't me who repped you but I don't find it funny either. I know many HIV+. Even if people use condoms they stop when they get exclusive and their partners could cheat. 50% of men cheat on their wives and the number could be higher in Miami.

Welcome to the real world.

You can rely on me. I lived in Miami for 25 yrs (I'm 29) and now live in NYC. Miami can be very city-like or very family oriented/suburbs. I'd recommend the following two places? (What's your budget?):

Brickell area - a bit pricey, but it's worth it for you. There are lots of young singles, professionals and couples with no kids.
South Beach (Alton Road area/Pennsylvania area). I love this area. It's away from the partying area but still very close. And it's just over the bridge to downtown where all of the businesses are.

Even though I consider myself a local (I don't live there but it's home and I'm there 6 times a year to visit my family)...I'd live in those two areas myself. I grew up in houses in the family/residential areas, but I explored Miami and really enjoyed myself to the fullest growing up/living there.

The "ghettos" are so small and scarce in comparison to many parts of Miami. I'm not sure why they even come up in these conversations. Yea, Liberty City/overtown and some parts of South Miami have small ghettos...but what city doesn't? There are *very* many larger nice neighborhoods in Miami where you don't even have to go near the poor areas.

I understand, I came from up in NC and TN to Miami two years ago, I could not stand the kid talk, people only doing things that are centered on kids, and the "what church you go to" from every other person.

There's always Coconut Grove too. Its kinda like a West Hollywood with socially liberal mentality. Both young and older, professionals and hippies, bar scene and shopping. It may be closer to your work as well.
