Default Homestead - Changed Dramtically Post Hurricane Andrew

I was looking at this article, A different Homestead 20 years after Andrew | HeraldTribune.com

I am moving to Homestead next year with my mom...Homestead has changed incredibly it went from 30 something percent Hispanic to over 60 %, post hurricane andrew !!, what happened ? I would love to read some articles on the Post-Hurricane, Homestead effect and how the demographics changed ? Me and mom want to buy a home there, a 3 bedroom..we can put 50 K as a down payment...We are looking for home in the 100-130K range, can I get a nice home in that price range with a pool ?

When me and my mom first arrive we will stay at the extended hotel there, Value Place...until we buy the house. I will probarly work in Miami or Key Largo, what is the distance ? My mom is retired and recieving a pension and social security.

Please give me some information on Homestead ? Where can I order a relocation package of Homestead ? Tell me how Homestead is ? By the way my mom and I are of Hispanic descent...what types of hispanics live there ? (Puerto Ricans, Cubans, etc...)

Thanks

What happened to the was a few things. First the base closed (its now a reserve base), so that took away many non hispanics from the area. Second many non hispanic people got nice checks from the insurance companies back then, and decided it was their ticket out of Homestead. This left a vacumn of sorts for more hispanics to move in.

Today Homestead is a mix of many backgrounds, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Mexican, white, black, etc. The best thing is to rent for 6 months to a year, then buy. This way you get to know the area before you are tied to a house. Key Largo will be a 30 minute commute from Homestead. Into Miami, it depends on what part of Miami you will be going and what time of day it is. It can take 45 minutes to get to parts of Miami, or it can take you an hour and half to get to that same point if it is rush hour traffic.

Thanks DoggieBus your awesome...Hey can I ask you or anyone else if I can buy a nice home there, between 100K to 130 K 3 bedroom with a pool putting 50 K as down payment ? Being Bilingual how are the hotel jobs either in Homestead or Key Largo ? My career is Radio Broadcasting, but I can work in the Hotel industry for the meantime, until something opens up in Radio.

You should be able to find something in that price range in Homestead. With a pool, I don't know, and in a nice are I don't know. Try looking at a townhouse, you might be able to get something nice, that has a clubhouse with a pool.
