Do people use the buses anyway?
Have you ever been to Dadeland South station during the day? If not, park at the Shorty's parking lot for 10 minutes in the afternoon, and tell me if people use them. These are not your west Kendall residential bus routes. Those busses run every 10-15 minutes and are standing room only during rush hour. People queue up for the Busway Flyer express route, which runs every 5-10 minutes, and sometimes have to wait for two busses to get a seat. So yes, people do use it and rely on it.

Once you introduce auto traffic you introduce inevitable congestion and accidents, making the busses slow and unreliable. Not only for busses, but also emergency vehicles which also use the busway. Plus you just fill up the new lanes in a year or two anyways, and we're back to square one!

First of all this is an outrage considering the Busway cost tens of millions of dollars (mostly Federal funds) to establish the 20 mile long Busway. I don't know how Miami Dade Transit can just allow MDX to take over a right of way that is operated by them. I'm sure the FEDS will look at this if it goes through and probably not want to give the transit agency any more monies for future projects!

The long term plan for the Busway was to eventually convert it to Metrorail all the way to Florida City and that is what should be done not another toll road.
As one of the reader comments said they could extend Metrorail south in portions as funding allows. I hope Pinecrest, Palmetto Bay and the adjoining communities truly oppose this horrific plan.
As HurricaneMan1992 pointed out these buses are jam packed and I have friends who have used them to get to south Dade.
