For a "large" county, Miami-Dade seems to be monotone when it comes to dressing to a point that people will assume that you listen to "ROCK MUSIC" if you don't dress just like them.

I wear white t shirts, blue jeans, and nikes (apparently there's a song about it). People probably think I'm some midwestern hick and or crazy. Maybe a bit

It's way to hot for jeans.

I prefer the Mr. Miami Beach look of the 50's, 60's and 70's.

I know what you mean. To be honest, I've talked about this ad infinitum with friends, and I think it's just the heat and humidity is not conducive to people really "dressing up."

I've always had this issue with Miami. As someone who is into "alternative" culture, I don't see much of it represented here. Just go a little ways up north to Broward and you'll see some people with spikes and blue or purple hair [here and there], but you rarely if ever see that in Miami [unless it's a Cuban grandmother with firetruck-red hair]. I think it's the conservative Catholic, family-oriented hispanic culture. You can't sneeze without your entire family finding out. And latin families are very overprotective and smothering. If you go out wearing spiky hair, they'll accuse you of being part of a gang and threaten to shave you bald. Our culture is also a hive mind [extremly nosey], so everything you do will somehow get back to your family. Even when you grow up, this stays with you.

At the same time, some of our parents, while they can get violently angry with us, they are very nurturing and affectionate to the point that they baby us to death. So we don't really rebel as much.

I was somehow an exception of course. But it's just way too hot and humid to dress up in elaborate outfits unless I'm going to a concert or a club. Even most of the goths and some punk kids that I know are "undercover" in the workplace and when they go out, mostly because it's just impractical, not to mention expensive. The cost of living is way too high here to wear some elaborate steampunk costume, lol.

I wasn't aware that people in Miami actually got dressed. You mean in real clothes, with shoes and unders and everything? I always thought bikinis, speedos, rollerblades and suntan oil were the only requirements.
