Can anyone tell me the commute time if you stay off of US1 (too aggrivating to drive) to get from Homestead to downtown? It would be just after the morning rush (around 9), then returning around 7:30...

Thanks!!

Side streets all the way from Homestead to downtown Miami??? at 9AM? 2 hours is my guess, sounds insane to me. The side streets here are no less stressful...and the stoplights will be quite agravating. My advice is to try teleconferencing, carpooling or try to live closer to where you need to be on a daily basis.

Thanks for your response Chelito but I was not suggesting sidestreets. The route wasn't in question but thanks for your thoughts.

ive done it. id say about hour and a half. i used to commute from homestead/florida city (exit 1) to the miami airport. it was about 45mins-hour.
i used to also commute from the same spot to miami beach. about 1:30 there, 2 hrs home.

Oh I am sorry. I misunderstood....ok, if you take the turnpike, to the snapper creek, to the palmetto, to the 836....wow I´m tired just typing that. Prob an hour and a half like Cixel said. And a ton of tolls too. Cixel, how much do you pay for that commute? Don't forget to mention the bad days when there is a mjor accident. It gets even worse. Just plan your life around the worst rush hour traffic, you will be much happier that way.

the most i pay in tolls is what im paying right now
right now i commute from homestead (exit 5) to okeechobee road (by doral/hialeah) on the turnpike. exit 36 maybe? i leave a half hour earlier because drivers get alot more psychotic 30 minutes later. its 4 tolls up and 4 tolls back. i leave at 640am and get there 740-750ish. 730 on a really good day. 8 bucks a day maybe? some tolls are a dollar and some are 75 cents i think. when i came back to this job for an open ended contract after having worked there for a month a few months back i asked for an extra dollar an hour because we worked out thats about what i was paying in tolls.

stay off the 826 PERIOD! if i take that home it takes 30 minutes ALONE just to get on the onramp. im not joking in the slightest. with all the people forcing their way in every way possible, all emergency lanes become regular lanes with everyone cutting each other off.

the miami beach commute was 3 tolls up and 2 back. because they charge you coming into downtown but not coming back. that was turnpike(821) to 874 to 826 to 836 east to i-95 to 195 to collins ave i think was the exit?

a few weeks ago i was so desperate for a job i almost accepted a commute to fort lauderdale.

Yeah, you are going to be miserable driving that every day. 9am won't be as bad as 7am but you would be lucky to make it in an hour. I would skip 826 and just take the turnpike all the way to the 836. It's 45 miles, the speed limit is between 55 and 65. With no traffic, you can safely do 80, but at 9am, you will probably average 50. Do the math.

Well, we drove from Key Largo up the turnpike to Miramar Sat. in 1 hour (no, we weren't speeding). The turnpike is actually a breath of fresh air compared to US1!! People were actually driving above the speed limit and paying attention! Amazing!!

That was on a Saturday though, try that same ride during the week during rush hours!
