Hey, guys, I am thinking of moving to Brickell soon, but I am looking for some feedback concerning a commute from Brickell to Homestead for work. I looked on mapquest and the commute from Brickell to Homestead is about 30 miles. So, 60 miles round trip for work if I decide to make the move. Do you guys think this is too far or unreasonable? I am 26 and a young professional who would love to live in Brickell, but fear the commute might be too far. I could move elsewhere in Miami or even to Homestead and would have a short commute to work, but I'm not sure I would like to live in the suburbs due to my age and desire to be in a prime location to meet and mingle with other young professionals. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I'd do the commute over even thinking about living in Homestead. As a 26 year old you'll be bored to tears there.

How about Kendall?
A lot closer than Brickell to Homestead.

Everyone that is young wants to blow all of their money on Brickell. That has turned into the in place for young "Professionals". My word of advice to all of them is don't blow your entire paycheck on rent. Try to save some money now that you are young and move to a place that isn't as expensive but still safe. The commute is going to kill you on top of what I just said. 26 is young and you still have many more years left.

Cholo, I thought about Kendall, but the problem is Kendall is a suburb and not really a city at all. I love urban life and the beautiful, luxury high-rise condos in the Brickell/downtown area. All you can find in Kendall is houses and townhouses, no luxury apartments and a bustling night life. I feel the suburbs are acceptable for middle-aged people with families and the elderly, but are not so much of a fit for the young. What do you consider more important, distance to work or living in a desirable location and commuting a little farther?

I'd move to Kendall,go look at some places by Kendall Dr. and the turnpike, you have restaurants,a movie theater,stores,gyms,etc.. and you jump on the turnpike on Kendall dr and will be in Homestead in 15 minutes with no traffic or dealing with U.S 1.

Try maybe, like people said already quite well, the Kendall area - preferably in your case the Dadeland / East Kendall area - and also South Miami (except that little area which is located just west-northwest of the Metrorail station). I really wouldn't recommend Homestead to anyone except maybe some parts of the Keys Gate section or neighboring Redlands, but even so they have quite a few issues and most probably it wouldn't be a good fit in your case.

Why the heck is everyone suggesting Kendall when the OP is looking for city life? Kendall is the antithesis of urban.

OP- go with either Downtown or Brickell. Be prepared for a drive but at least in your down time you'll be living in a place you like as opposed to the suburban paradise of Kendall.

Mainly because he cited Homestead - which, I assume, is a clue that the OP has a lower end budget. And, as Brickell is not cheap, it may be a difficult one.

Dadeland or South Miami probably are good options with a lower end budget - they're not far from the areas with 'action' and stuff.

If OP's got enough money, as you said, Brickell - preferably Brickell Key if money's no deal -, Coconut Grove (east of SW 32nd Ave), Key Biscayne and, though it may sound odd, Venetian Islands.

Additionally, which I forgot , there's Midtown (though stay in the east or near US-1 bits - that area is up and coming but still has issues), the Coral Way area and Downtown (mostly the same thing as Midtown - though stay east of Miami Ave in this case). These areas are not expensive nor cheap (more to the middle of the road).

^^ Venetian Island is a good suggestion that is not mentioned much on this forum. It is close to the beach, downtown, Brickell, and the art district.
