My 20 yr old son is coming down to visit me from small town Maine. I've only lived here in LBTS for 17 mos. He's interested in checking out Miami due to the fact that he's into a lot of the music coming out of the "305". He's bringing a buddy along with him from Maine, together they want to venture down there to check out the scene. This thought scares the hell out of me.
BTW- I've also heard rumor that they are looking to obtain fake ID's. Go figure, right?

I've read a few posts about most of the 'bad areas' that he should stay out of. Does anyone know where a couple underage kids w/o ID's can safely go to check out the music scene?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions...

All the bars/clubs on South Beach are all 21+. There are some 18+ places in Miami but they are 18+ for Ladies, guys are out of luck. Mr. Moes in Coconut Grove has live music, but I think they card at the door at night. But you could call and ask them.

Two 20 year old guys, from small town Maine, looking to come visit Miami not knowing the area, check out the scene, and try to score fake IDs.

Gee, any chance this one doesn't end well?

Default Thanks?

Please, I'm the mother, ABSOLUTELY there's a chance it might not go well! I told you I'm scared to death, that's why I'm asking...
If they were your kids, would you tell them that the safest place to be would be closest to the beach?
Thanks for your responses- I appreciate them all.

Yes, the safest place is probably the beach for young tourists. Just because there are so many people around. During the day they will be able to get in to places like Senor Frogs, not sure if they have live music. Coconut Grove is pretty safe too, as long as they don't wonder past the areas where all the shops/restaurants are.

I understand, once they reach that age you just hope for the best.

Anyway, there is a website actually called partyinmiami . com. It lists every cool spot, live music, etc. with phone numbers. There are some places with live music in some safe areas such as Coconut grove and Key Biscayne.

Thanks! I just checked out that site, great information!
Yes, I'm going to be horrified during their entire 5 day visit. I'm counting on getting no sleep what so ever. I've tried to explain to him about the dangers that exist in a big city, but I'm only the Mom - what do I know?
I've gone as far as to send him links to the local news channels, every day when we talk I'll tell him about the latest murders/drive-bys and cop killings. I swear he thinks I'm making it up! Or at least exaggerating!

This kid sits up there in "no-wheres-ville" listens to the gangsta rap, watches some stupid tv and thinks he knows it all. I just wanna poke him in the eye, or worse!

Once again- I appreciate everyones help on this!
