Default Amtrak station transportation to Ft.Lauderdale airport?

Howdy folks, I am wondering the best way to get from the Amtrak station in Ft.Lauderdale to the Ft.Lauderdale airport. Is there a bus route? Or is taxi the only option? I want to spend as little as possible. =)

I will be leaving from Tampa and arriving at the station at 5:12, and my plane leaves at 8:15. I am hoping I'll have enough time to get to the airport! Is the Amtrak train usually on time? I was considering leaving a day earlier to make sure I can make it to the airport in time, but that'd mean I would be pulling an all nighter in order to save my monies. Thanks for your time! Cheers!

You could do it via bus but it will take you at least an hour and you're going to have to transfer buses.

Another option would be to take Tri-Rail from the Amtrak station (they use the same station) and get off at FLL. The station is not at the airport, though, there is a shuttle bus that takes you from the FLL Tri-Rail station to the actual airport.

The best option would be to take a taxi. It's only a few miles and shouldn't cost that much.

As for being on time, I'm not sure.

Amtrak is notoriously unreliable, you really have no idea if it's going to be on time. On the plus side, you'd be arriving around Tri-rail's rush hour service time (otherwise it runs a 1-2 hour schedule, which is pretty useless...). Busses run every 15 minutes, bur you have to transfer downtown. Bring schedules of Tri-rail and busses #22 and #1, and when you're almost here, decide which way is better. If Amtrak is an more than a half hour late, or if it's the weekend, you had better get a cab.

Thanks so much for the replies. Transferring buses sounds like headache so I'm considering the tri rail. Is the shuttle from there free of charge? I'm also willing to walk..perhaps I could get off one of the stops and walk to the airport?

If it's just a few miles away from the airport, I'd be okay taking Taxi. Are there usually taxis at the train station? I consider calling a taxi but if the train is unreliable on time, that would be useless. Thanks again for the info!

Also with the Tri Rail, how long do you estimate it would take to get to the airport after hopping on?

Once you're on the Tri-rail it should be quick since it's only one station stop. Based on the schedules it looks like tri rail shuttle takes 10-15 minutes depending on the terminal, and it's timed to leave 7 mins. after the trains arrive. So 25-30 minutes to the terminal once the train comes.

Pretty pathetic though that you spend more time waiting and riding the tri-rail shuttle than on the actual train! Goes to show that relying on shuttle bus connections make a transit system much less convenient.

Walking from the station to the airport is not really possible.
